Seymour Daily Tribune December 1, 2006 James Abner Shull June 13, 1927 - Nov. 30, 2006 James Abner Shull, 79, North Vernon, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Shull was the owner-operator of Brush Creek Campground and Bait Shop in Butlerville from 1964 to 1998. Before that, he worked at Alcoa in Richmond. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Seymour, and attended First Marion Baptist Church, Commiskey. He enjoyed playing guitar at Joe's Pizza and doing yard work. Born June 13, 1927, in Boone, N.C., he was a son of James Howard and Ruth Shipley Shull, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 27, 1997, at First Marion Baptist Church, Commiskey, he married Joan Engle, who survives. Other survivors include four stepsons, Leonard Ross and Delbert Ross, both of Commiskey, and Wallace Ross and Leighton Ashcraft, both of North Vernon; a brother, William "Bill" Shull, Richmond; a half brother, Robert Florence, Richmond; two half sisters, Martha Robertson, Bethel, and Linda Dunn, Richmond; an uncle, Bud Shipley, Richmond; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie Wilson Shull, who died June 16, 1996. They were married Nov. 22, 1947. The Rev. Mike Cantrell and the Rev. David Schill will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Monday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to First Marion Baptist Church Preschool.
