Seymour Daily Tribune January 29, 2002 G. Keith Skelton June 7, 1932-Jan. 28, 2002 G. Keith Skelton, 69, Brownstown, died at 11:06 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Skelton was of the Methodist faith. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Infantry Division Band at Fort Riley, Kan., from 1953 to 1955. He was retired as music director for the Brownstown Central Community School Corp., having served from 1957 to 1975. He also was self-employed with Skelton Instrument Repair. He graduated from Indiana State Teachers College with bachelor’s and master’s degrees and was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, International Clarinet Association and National Association of Professional Instrument Repair Technicians. He was a composer of music, including the Brownstown Central school song, and was a clarinetist with the Columbus City Band, Seymour Community Band, Columbus Symphony, Pro Musica and Schulhaus 4+3 Dixieland and German Band. Born June 7, 1932, in Huntingburg, he was a son of James Herbert Skelton and Rada Robling Skelton. On Dec. 24, 1953, in Huntingburg, he married Betty Jeanne Wicker, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Sheryl (Lynn) Tiemeyer, Vallonia, and Vicki (Terry) Wolka, Scottsburg; a brother, James Richard Skelton, Lubbock, Texas; his mother-in-law, Gladys Wicker, Brownstown; six grandchildren, Luke Tiemeyer and Jessica Tiemeyer, both of Vallonia, Ben Tiemeyer, Medora, and Craig Wolka, Elloree Wolka and Emilee Wolka, all of Scottsburg; and a great-grandchild, Jalen David Tiemeyer, Medora. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carmen Woods. The Rev. Ralph Blomenberg will conduct services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
