Seymour Tribune Edith L. (Johnson) Smith 1917 - 2008 Edith L. Smith, 91, Brownstown, and formerly of Medora, passed away at 9:16 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and retired from H.O. Canfield, Seymour, in 1982. She was a member of Medora Christian Church. She loved to cook and be with her family. Born Aug. 8, 1917, in Sparksville, she was the daughter of Harry Johnson and Emma Hughes Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death. On Feb. 5, 1940, she married Everett Smith, who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2000. Survivors include a son, Jerry D. (Sharon) Smith, Brownstown; step-daughter, Mary Smith, Shelbyville; brother, Calvin L. Johnson, Seymour; sisters, Lavella Upchurch, Rochester, Ill., and Mary Lawson, Medora; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Kimberly (Tim) Hurt, Seymour, Jerri Kay (Mike) Roll, Brownstown, and Matthew Smith, Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Fay Smith and four brothers, Warren, Doyle, Dwight and Bruce Johnson. Pastor David Upchurch will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at Hague Funeral Home, Medora. Burial will take place at Dixon Chapel Cemetery, Lawrence County. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
