Seymour Daily Tribune Frances L. Smith August 23, 2006 Frances L. "Jewell" Smith, 69, died at 2:28 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Mrs. Smith worked for Central Pharmaceutical Company for 15 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Seymour Christ Temple, loved to work with ceramics, oil painting and crossword puzzles and especially loved her grandchildren. Born Nov. 1, 1936, in Carbon Glow, Ky., she was the daughter of William Burlie and Nannie Belle Barrett Deaton, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Otha "Duke" Smith on June 11, 1955, in Seymour. He died Jan. 16, 1994. Survivors include four sons, Larry Joe (Pamela) Smith, Elizabethtown, Richard Allen (Lesley) Smith, Naples, Fla., and Kevin Wayne (Kathy) Smith, and Terry Dewayne (Sherry) Smith, both of Seymour; 15 grandchildren, Nina (Randy) Burk, and Brandon and Tiffany Smith, all of Elizabethtown, Rachel Smith, Seymour, Brendon and Cody Smith, Naples, Fla., Heather Smith, Samantha Smith, Charlie Girts, Casey Smith, Justin Branaman, Ashley Pettay, and Tanya and Heather Hartwell, all of Seymour, and Brittany Hartwell, Columbus; eight great-grandchildren, and a brother, Charles "Bud" (Sue) Deaton, Seymour. She was preceded in death by a sister, Romany Hardy. Brother D.G. Morris will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Riley Hospital for Children or the donor's choice.
