Indianapolis Star - November 14, 2001 Granger Smith, 89, was businessman and community leader in Seymour SEYMOUR, Ind. -- Services for Granger Hart Smith, 89, Seymour, a business executive and civic leader, will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 16 in Voss & Sons Funeral Service, with calling from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and from 10 a.m. Nov. 16. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. He died Nov. 12. Mr. Smith worked seven years for the Indiana Telephone Corp., retiring in 1978 as supervisor of budgeting. Previously, he was controller of Seymour Tool and Engineering and Lear Siegler Co. for 14 years. Prior to that, he was controller and assistant secretary 19 years for Buhner Fertilizer Co. He was a former secretary and treasurer of the Seymour Industrial Association. Mr. Smith had been president of the Indiana School Boards Association and was a board member and treasurer of Seymour Community Schools. He also had been president of the Seymour Chamber of Commerce and had served as chairman of the Blood Donor Procurement Committee for the Jackson County chapter of the American Red Cross. A member of the Bishops Council and the standing committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, he was past president of the Waycross Episcopal Camp, Brown County. Mr. Smith was a graduate of LaSalle Extension University and the University of Wisconsin. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, of which he was a charter member, or the Granger and Ruth Smith Drug Abuse Prevention Fund in care of the Community Foundation of Jackson County.
