Michael R. "Smiley" Smith
1954 - 2008 
Michael R. "Smiley" Smith, 54, North Vernon, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Smith was a 1972 graduate of Jennings County High School, where he also played football. He owned and operated Smith's Floor Coverings for several years. Mr. Smith was a member of Masonic Lodge 59, Rolling Hills Shrine Club, North Vernon Eagles and Seymour Elks Club. He formerly worked as a deputy and dispatcher for the Jennings County Sheriff's Department. He was an avid golfer and NASCAR fan, and enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Born Sept. 14, 1954, in Seymour, he was the son of George and Betty Jeanne Estell Smith, both of whom preceded him in death.
Survivors include four children, Natalee (Jerry) Hahn, Queen Creek, Ariz., John R. (Sara Morgan) Smith, Butlerville, and Katelyn Smith and Chad Smith, both of North Vernon; a brother, Tom (Janis) Smith, California; a sister, Barbara (Rick) Patterson, North Vernon; and six grandchildren, Tyler, Maycee, Clay, Laynee, Brody Michael and Baylee.
The Rev. Bart Smith will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home, North Vernon. Burial will take place at Graham Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
