Seymour Daily Tribune Mearl W. Steltenpohl June 12, 2006 Mearl W. Steltenpohl, 88, of Seymour, died at 6:50 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2006, at Lutheran Community Home. Mr. Steltenpohl attended Jackson County schools and was a United States Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed as a production supervisor for Williams Company until his retirement after 35 years of service. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, having served as a deacon, and participated in the Lutheran Layman’s League and American Legion Post 89. He loved his church and family dearly. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Born April 2, 1918, in Jackson County, he was the son of William and Elizabeth Schrier Steltenpohl, both of whom preceded him in death. On July 14, 1946, in Cleveland, he married Malinda Stuckwish. His wife of 59 years survives. Other survivors include two sons, Timothy (Alice) Steltenpohl, Medora, and William (Gayle) Steltenpohl, Marengo, Ill.; two daughters, Jolene (the Rev. Leo) Kostizen, Sioux City, Iowa, and Rebecca (Bruce) Lauer, Willowbrook, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Beulah Stuckwisch, Verna Thias and Evelyn Thias, all of Seymour. Mr. Steltenpohl was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Maurice and Luther Steltenpohl; three sisters, Leota Steltenpohl, Vera Stigdon and Bernetta Dickmeyer; and a great-grandson, Samuel Steltenpohl. The Rev. Leo Kostizen (his son-in-law) and the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 89, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Disabled American Veterans Post 47 and Vietnam Veterans Post 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Burkholder Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, Immanuel Lutheran Church or to donor’s choice.
