Seymour Daily Tribune January 30, 2002 Bennie Ray Stevens Bennie Ray Stevens, 63, of Dennison, Ill., and formerly of Jackson County, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at his home. Mr. Stevens was former supervisor of the old Pantasote Co. in Seymour, was a former Kirby Vacuum Co. distributor in Olney, Ill., a sales clerk at Jack’s Ace Hardware in West Terre Haute and former administrator of Moose Lodge 1009 in Terre Haute. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Austin Christian Church. Born Aug. 13, 1938, near Bakersfield, Calif., he was a son of Ben Stevens and Virginia Elizabeth Scott. He married Alice Jean Kirby, who survives in Dennison, Ill. Other survivors include two sons, Bennie Ray “Skipper” Stevens Jr., Taunton, Mass., and Christopher Stevens, Deerfield, Fla.; two brothers, Nickey Stevens, Austin, and Timmey Stevens, Brownstown; three sisters, Betty Hicks, San Diego, Patsy Campbell, Seymour, and Nancy Jean Stutsman, Scottsburg; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Stevens, and two brothers, Jerry and Homer Stevens. The Rev. Donald W. Allen will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Collins Funeral Home, Scottsburg. Burial will be in Scottsburg Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Crothersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
