Seymour Tribune Joe Sullivan 1942 - 2009 Joe Sullivan, 66, Austin, passed away at 11:26 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Scott Memorial Hospital, Scottsburg. Mr. Sullivan was raised in Brownstown and was a 1960 graduate of Brownstown High School. He was inducted into the United States Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged after serving 17? years with the U.S. Navy. He then worked on tugboats and barges on the Mississippi River for several years. He retired in 2005 from Valeo-Sylvania in Seymour after 20 years of service. He enjoyed reading, watching television, working on small engines and watching NASCAR races. Born Aug. 21, 1942, in Brownstown, he was the son of Lawrence Jack and Florence Donnells Sullivan, both of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Chase Sullivan, Austin; two step-sons, Larry (Michelle) Shaver, Milan, and Ron Shaver, Scott County; five sisters, Pat Baltus, Cincinnati, Beverly (Bill) Spoon, Kokomo, Sherry (Richard) Abel, Seymour, Darlene (Mark) Lynch, Brownstown, and Charlene (Don) Newkirk, Seymour; one brother, Jim (Terry) Sullivan, Seymour; and stepgrandchildren, Michelle, Joshua, Michael and Alicia. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jackie Sullivan; stepson, Michael Shaver; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold P. and Blanche M. Chase. Brother Roy Duckworth will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre, Madison. Burial will take place at New Liberty Cemetery near East Enterprise. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 185 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5396, both in Vevay. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
