Seymour Daily Tribune February 10, 2007 Herbert William Terkhorn Herbert William Terkhorn, 84, North Vernon, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Terkhorn served with the U.S. Air Corps in World War II as an aerial gunner in the 8th Air Force and also was a veteran of the Korean War. He had worked at Canteen Vending Co. and was a truck driver for Courier-Newsom for several years. He was a member of Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour and the Lutheran Layman's League, and had been a tutor for the Lambach Literacy Movement. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marietta, Ga., and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rome, Ga. Mr. Terkhorn attended St. Paul's Lutheran Elementary School (Wegan), Tampico High School and had taken courses at North Carolina State University. He enjoyed reading, gardening, biking and bird watching. Born Dec. 17, 1922, in Jackson County, he was a son of William and Addie Pollert Terkhorn. He married Marie Delphine McLarty on April 25, 1952, in Columbus, Ga., who preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 1984. Survivors include two sons, William P. (Rutty) Terkhorn, Columbus, and Alton K. (Kim) Terkhorn, Springfield, Va.; one daughter, Shawn D. (Daniel) Halfacre, North Vernon; two sisters, Kathryn Sierp and Edith Hackman, both of Seymour; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Terkhorn and Veronica Terkhorn, both of Columbus, Victoria Simone and Daniel Halfacre II, both of North Vernon, Christopher Terkhorn, Michael Terkhorn, Casandra Terkhorn and Jaclyn Terkhorn, all of Virginia, Thais Terkhorn, Arizona, and Ashley Terkhorn, New Mexico; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tillford Terkhorn and Walter Terkhorn, and three sisters, Marie Eickbush, Bernice Redicker and Eleanor Denny. The Rev. Phillip E. Bloch and Rev. Ralph Blomenberg will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside honors by Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars.
