Ben Thomas Sr.
Ben Thomas Sr., 89, Deputy, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Thomas was a retired coal miner for the old High Splint Coal Co. in Harlan, Ky., and was a former employee of Morgan Foods in Austin. He attended Open Door Baptist Church.
Born July 5, 1912, in Harlan, Ky., he was the son of William Thomas and Sarah Cloud. His wife, Elizabeth Thomas, preceded him in death.
Survivors include six sons, Lowell Thomas, Ervin Thomas, Clifford Thomas, Ben Thomas Jr. and Bill Thomas, all of Deputy, and Carl Thomas, Austin; four daughters, Rose Jones, Janie Wilhite, Coella Saylor and Patricia Thomas, all of Deputy; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Marvin W. McIntosh was to conduct services at 11 a.m. today at Collins Funeral Home, Scottsburg. Burial was to be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison.
