Seymour Daily Tribune March 20, 2002 Dennis Edward Thomas Dennis Edward “Denny” Thomas, 67, North Vernon, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at his home. Mr. Thomas was a 1953 graduate of Paris Crossing High School and was employed with Cummins Engine Co. from 1955 to 1973. A lifelong farmer, he also was a school bus driver for 26 years, retiring in 1999. He was a former member of the National Guard and was a 25-year member of the Lovett Township Volunteer Fire Department, serving as secretary-treasurer and board member at the time of his death. He was a member and former trustee of Commiskey Baptist Church and served as chairman of the church’s food tent at the Jennings County Fair for 29 years. In 1953 he received the Hoosier Farmer Award. He enjoyed camping and serving on the fire department and was a former trap shooter. Born May 28, 1934, at Lovett, he was a son of Joseph I. Thomas and Louise Marie Vance Thomas. On June 7, 1953, at Tea Creek Baptist Church near Lovett, he married Jean Morin, who survives in North Vernon. Other survivors include a son, Don Thomas, North Vernon; a daughter, Shirley Lucas, Commiskey; a grandson, Larry Joe Risk, North Vernon; a granddaughter, DeAnna Thomas, North Vernon; two stepgrandsons, Justin Lucas and McKinnley Lucas, both of Commiskey; a stepgranddaughter, Mariah Lucas, Commiskey; a great-grandchild, Victoria Jo Risk, North Vernon; a brother, Dean Thomas, Somerset, Ky.; and a sister, Susie Taylor, North Vernon. The Rev. Dan Corbin will conduct services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon. Interment will take place at Tea Creek Baptist Cemetery, Lovett. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. An Indiana Volunteer Fire Association Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Lovett Township Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
