Seymour Daily Tribune February 5, 2002 Dale Edward Thompson Dale Edward Thompson, 68, North Vernon, died at 4:55 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at his home. Mr. Thompson worked in sales for Elasco in Mattoon, Ill., for 40 years, retiring in 1996, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021, was a 1951 graduate of Charleston High School in Illinois and was past commander of former American Legion 199 in North Vernon. He enjoyed NASCAR. Born July 11, 1933, at Trilla, Ill., he was a son of Cleo and Myrtle Morgan Thompson. On Jan. 1, 1953, in Lerna, Ill., he married Helen Hamilton, who survives in North Vernon. Other survivors include three sons, Martin E. Thompson, Glasgow, Ky., Brian W. Thompson, North Vernon, and Paul Fenter, Troy, Ohio; three daughters, Cindy Thompson and Barbara Edman, both of North Vernon, and Paula Benton, Oregon, Ohio; two sisters, Phyllis Norris, Groveland, Fla., and Sandra Campbell, Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Gerald Thompson, Lerna, Ill., Lowell Thompson, Charleston, Ill., and Michael Thompson, Jacksonville, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The Rev. Brian Trotter will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by North Vernon VFW Matt Hester Post 2021. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jennings County.
