Alice G. VanOsdol
Alice G. VanOsdol, 84, North Vernon, died at 8:27 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Jennings Health Care Center, North Vernon.
Mrs. VanOsdol was a 1935 graduate of Vernon High School. She did clerical work from 1938 to 1961 in letter shops and printing businesses in Indianapolis. She then worked as a realty aide for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Indianapolis from January 1962 through June 1980. She lived in Indianapolis during her years of employment and returned to Jennings County in October 1983. She was a member of First Christian Church, North Vernon, and attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church near Vernon. She enjoyed sewing, walking in the woods and gardening.
Born Sept. 16, 1917, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of John Thomas and Clara Elnora Heilman Patrick. On Sept. 2, 1948, in Indianapolis, she married Darrel Robert VanOsdol and he died in March 1986.
She is survived by a stepson, Darrel R. VanOsdol Jr., Indianapolis; three nephews, Jerry K. Robertson, Seymour, William Robertson, North Vernon, and John Patrick, Greenwood; and three nieces, Carol J. Vurva, Merrillville, Linda McClain, Greenwood, and Judy Bade, Indianapolis.
She also was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, LaVonne Brothers; a brother, Omer T. Patrick; and two sisters, Anna Robertson and Myrtle Patrick.
The Rev. Ron Bridgewater of First Christian Church will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery, Vernon.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society, through the funeral home.
