Seymour Daily Tribune January 1, 2002 Melvin A. Waskom Melvin A. “Mutt” Waskom, 81, Seymour, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at his home. Mr. Waskom had been a truck driver for Weyerhaeuser for several years and retired in 1976. He was a 1941 graduate of Tampico High School and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Eagles 655 in Seymour. Born Dec. 16, 1920, in Jackson County, he was a son of Siegal and Flora Weston Waskom. On Jan. 1, 1944, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown, he married Marie Wienhorst, and she survives. Other survivors include a son, Jerry Waskom (wife Sandy), Seymour; two daughters, Shirley Ploog (husband Melvin), Charlotte, Iowa, and Nancy Wischmeier (husband Keith), Vallonia; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Waskom (wife Ruth), Brownstown; and a sister, Vera Sparrow (husband Woodrow), Scottsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Waskom; a sister, Genevieve Scifres; and two grandsons, Michael Waskom and Kent Ploog. The Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, the Rev. Philip Bloch and Vicar Jimmy Rodriguez will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. Burial will be in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Dudleytown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Service, Burkholder Chapel, Seymour, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery Fund or donor’s choice.
