Seymour Daily Tribune Ruth Jane Waskom June 23, 2006 Ruth Jane Waskom, 88, Brownstown, died at 11:16 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. Mrs. Waskom was a member of Brownstown Christian Church. She was a homemaker and candy maker. She was a member of Brownstown Chapter 264, Order of Eastern Star, for 50-plus years, and was very active in the Women’s Circle at Brownstown Christian Church, was a former Sunday school teacher and was very active in Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary. Born Dec. 30, 1917, in Brownstown, she was a daughter of S.M. Hotchkiss Sr. and Myrtle J. Lockman Hotchkiss, both of whom preceded her in death. On Dec. 6, 1942, in Brownstown Christian Church, she married Howard M. Waskom, who died April 12, 2005. Survivors include a son, Joseph S. (Jan) Waskom, Indianapolis; a daughter, Jane Waskom Terrell, Louisville; a brother, Sam Hotchkiss, Brownstown; two sisters, Virginia H. Summa and Esther Hotchkiss, both of Brownstown; three grandchildren, Joseph S. Waskom II and Jennifer Waskom Bauer, both of Indianapolis, and Blair Balzer, Louisville; two great-grandchildren, Elijah C. Waskom and Joseph W. Waskom III, both of Indianapolis; and two sisters-in-law, Vera Sparrow, Scottsburg, and Marie Waskom, Seymour. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hotchkiss and Grace Sullivan, and a brother, Wesley H. Hotchkiss. The Rev. Michael Hogg will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brownstown Christian Church. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, and from 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the church. Eastern Star services will be conducted by Brownstown Chapter 264, Order of Eastern Star, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Brownstown Christian Church Building Fund or Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary.
