Seymour Daily Tribune James D. Weesner Sr. October 18, 2006 June 2, 1925 - Oct. 17, 2006 James D. "Jim" Weesner Sr., 81, Brownstown, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Weesner was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a veteran of the Korean War, discharged in 1951. He was a 1949 graduate of Indiana Mortuary College and had worked at funeral homes in Wabash, Muncie, Warsaw and Goshen before moving to Brownstown in February 1963. In 1967 he purchased Winklepleck Funeral Home. He was vice president of Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home Inc. at the time of his death. For many years he worked as a volunteer for Brownstown Christmas Cheer and was a former member of the Brownstown Lions Club. He had served two terms as president of Jackson County Mental Health. He was a member of Brownstown Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed fishing and having coffee with his friends at McDonald's restaurant. Born June 2, 1925, in Wabash, he was a son of Jones A. and Mildred Koons Weesner, both of whom preceded in death. On Nov. 23, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colo., he married Betty Jean Coon, who survives. Other survivors include three children, Kathy (Doug) Heiwig, Brownsburg, and Karen "Jody" (Dan) Hall, and Jim Weesner Jr., both of Brownstown; a brother, Jack Weesner, Lagro; a sister, Becky Lavengood, Kokomo; four grandchildren, Mark Stewart, Jody Dale Pennington and Jonathan and Chelsie Hall; three step-grandchildren, Tiffany, Brian and Daniel Heiwig; and a nephew whom he and his wife, Betty, helped raise, Michael (Ginger) Hoover. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Weesner and Richard Weesner. Tim Miller, assisted by Jean Pogue and Neal McCory, will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown, with military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Brownstown Church of the Nazarene.
