Seymour Daily Tribune December 18, 2006 Gerry Joe Welton Gerry Joe Welton, 68, North Vernon, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Welton served in the U.S. Marines from 1958 to 1962. He retired from the Indiana State Police as a sergeant in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Hayden Masonic Lodge, Indiana Valley Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis where he served as a member of the board, the York Rite of Indianapolis, Rolling Hill Shrine Club where he was a past president, Smokey Patrol, Indiana State Police Pioneers, the R.O.J., Murat Hillbilly Clan. He had advanced in Masonic ranks to the 33rd degree. Born June 20, 1938, in Vincennes, he was son of Joseph and Helen Reed Welton; his father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Vincennes. In March 1962 he married Anna Mae Wampler, who survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Cynthia (Steven) Martin, North Vernon; one son, Scott Welton, North Vernon; four grandchildren, Derrick, Andrew, Jami, and Brandon Martin, all of North Vernon; one brother, Max Welton, Vincennes; and one sister, Linda McIntosh, Terre Haute. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pickett Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Shrine Hospital or Survivors and Children of Police Officers Killed In Duty.
