Seymour Daily Tribune Norris Gene Wessel June 4, 1926 – June 7, 2006 Norris Gene Wessel, 80, Seymour, died at 3:48 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Mr. Wessel was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown, where he held numerous offices. He served in U.S. Navy and was employed with Cummins Engine Company for 31 years. He also was a farmer. He was a member of American Legion Post 89 in Seymour and the Elks Lodge 462 of Seymour. Born June 4, 1926, in Brownstown, he was a son of Daniel Wessel and Mabel Otte, both of whom preceded him in death. On Nov. 11, 1951, he married Thelma J. Disbro who preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1991. He then married Lucille Nierman on Nov. 26, 1994, in Brownstown, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gary Gene (Rhonda) Wessel, Seymour, and Danny Joe (Jana) Wessel, Brownstown; a daughter, Linda (Tom) Hallow, Brownstown; a step-son, Tim (Margy) Nierman, Columbus; three sisters, Betty Zaring and Alice (Marvin) Christopher, both of Seymour, and Elberta (Richard) Darlage, Brownstown; seven grandchildren, Jodi (Todd) Isaacs, Brandi (Mark) Leslie and Angie (Tim) Stuckwisch, all of Brownstown, Nevin (Angie) Hallow, Freetown, Scott (Meagan) Wessel and John Wessel, both of Seymour, and Joe Nierman, Indianapolis; and six great-grandchildren, Hallie Wessel, Paige Isaacs, Kylie Isaacs, Colten Hallow, Zoe Stuckwisch and Devin Stuckwisch. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Lepahert. The Rev. Jeff Geisler and the Rev. Jack Belk will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Wegan. Full military graveside services will be conducted by Veterans for Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Vets 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Spurgeon Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Wegan, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown, American Cancer Society or donor’s choice.
