Seymour Tribune Gladys Louise Doane Wicker Gladys Louise Doane Wicker, 98, Brownstown, passed away at 7:24 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. Mrs. Wicker was a member of Seymour Christian Church and Speedway Christian Church. She was a telephone operator at age 15, earning 12.5 cents per hour. She also worked at Real Silk Hosiery from 1929 to 1932 and Block's Department Store in the 1930s, both in Indianapolis, and was also a homemaker. She graduated from Carmel High School in 1928 and belonged to Bunco Club, Speedway Homemakers Club, International Travel Study Club, Seymour Senior Citizens and numerous other organizations. She made a home in Carmel, Smithville, Huntingburg and Speedway for 50 years, all places in which her husband, Dalton, served as a band director. She moved to Seymour in 1998 to be closer to her family. She enjoyed family, travel, music, handicrafts, cooking and entertaining. Born Aug. 22, 1910, in Carmel, she was the daughter of Harry A. Doane and Glenna Richardson Doane Rodibaugh, both of whom preceded her in death. On Aug. 9, 1930, in the Friends Church in Carmel, she married Dalton H. Wicker, who preceded her in death in 1979. Survivors include two grandchildren, Sheryl (Lynn) Tiemeyer, Vallonia, and Vicki (Terry) Wolka, Scottsburg; six great-grandchildren, Luke (Amanda) Tiemeyer, Vallonia, Ben (Jodi) Tiemeyer, Medora, Jessica Tiemeyer, Indianapolis, Craig Wolka, Tempe, Ariz., and Elloree Wolka and Emilee Wolka, both of Scottsburg; and five great-great-grandchildren, Jalen, Kiernan, Quentin, Gavin and William Tiemeyer. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Doane and Robert Doane; a daughter, Betty Skelton; and a son-in-law, G. Keith Skelton. The Rev. Joe Ridenour will conduct graveside services at 3 p.m. Saturday at Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown.
