Seymour Tribune Donald Wilkerson Donald "Don" Wilkerson, 80, Elkhart, passed away at 10:37 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at The Hospice House, South Bend. Mr. Wilkerson spent nearly 33 years working in Michiana area financial institutions as a mortgage and loan officer, retiring in the early 1980s. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was also a long-time volunteer for the Salvation Army's "Meals On Wheels" program. He loved to play euchre and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed teaching his sons to golf as well. He also liked to take long walks in Island Park with his Yorkie, "Corkie," and often stopped to feed the ducks and squirrels. He liked all types of sports, but the Chicago Bears was his favorite team. He was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War, where he served as a master sergeant in a mortar company and received two Bronze stars. Born July 8, 1928, in Spencer, he was the son of Oliver Wilkerson and Ethel Sullivan. On March 5, 1955, in Seymour, he married Marietta Peters, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Robin (Bryon) Copeland, Crowley, Texas, Tamie Wilkerson, Elkhart; three sons, David (Denise) Wilkerson, Greg (Eileen) Wilkerson, both of Bristol, Mark Wilkerson, Boulder City, Nev.; one sister, Norma Jean (Ali) Owens, Cincinnati; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Delphia Davis. Pastors Robert Schalhorn and Spencer Mielke will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart. Burial will take place at Zion Cemetery, Bristol, Military graveside honors will be rendered by Elkhart DAV 19 and the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
