Seymour Daily Tribune - April 14, 2006 Hershel Ernest Willcutt Hershel Ernest “Doodle” Willcutt, 80, Medora, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Willcutt was a member of Medora Christian Church. He served in United States Navy, was a farmer and previous owner and operator of Willcutt’s Vermeer Sales & Service (“Round Hay Baler Sales”). He also was a No. 1 fish fryer. He was a Jackson County Conservation Council member, Carr Township trustee for eight years from 1971-1978, Carr Township Fire Board; Carr Township Conservation Club, Carr Township Advisory Board, White River Valley Cemetery Board, and Carr-Owen Community Foundation Advisory Board. Born Oct. 28, 1925, in Jackson County, he was a son of Thomas F. Willcutt and Irene (Wingler) Willcutt, both of whom preceded him in death. On Oct. 28, 1943, in Lawrence County, he married Hazel Peachee Willcutt, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Thomas L. (Velma) Willcutt, Seymour; a daughter, Betty J. (Dick) Clampitt, Medora; Roy E. (Barbara) Wingler, Brownstown, who resided with the Willcutts for more than five years; three grandchildren, Amber (Barry) Crane, Mitchell, Becky (David) Vehslage, Brownstown, and Jason (Diane) Clampitt, Seymour; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Clampitt, Seymour, Logan Lane, Medora, Karcyn Gray, Vallonia, Mickayla Crane and Alyce Crane, both of Mitchell, and Marley Vehslage and Evan Vehslage, both of Brownstown. The Rev. Stan Thomas will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday, at Medora Christian Church. Burial will take place at White River Valley Cemetery, Medora. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, and from 10 a.m. until time of service, Monday at the church. Full military graveside services will be conducted by VFW 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Vets 7, all of Seymour. Memorials may be given to Carr Township Conservation Club (Rebuilding Trust Fund); Medora Christian Church Family Life Center, Carr-Owen Community Foundation, or donors choice.
