Jackson County Banner Brownstown, Indiana Thursday, September 28, 1876 Page 4 Obituary Died September 4th, 1876, at the residence of her son-in-law, near Houston, Indiana, Mrs. Eleanor Winkler, aged 78 years, 6 months and 10 days. Mother Winkler was one of the old pioneers of this part of the State. She and her husband, Wm. Winkler, (now deceased,) came, to the State in the year 1822, when this part of the country was a wilderness. In early life she united with the M.E. Church, and for 52 years lived the life of an humble, devoted follower of Jesus. Her end was peaceful and happy. Sister Winkler was the oldest member of Houston Grange, and while as a Grange we shall miss her cheerful presence-the church a lively and earnest member-her children wand the community her noble example-may we emulate her many birtues, follow her footsteps, and prepare to meet her in the mansions above. Committee of the Grange. A. Scott, F.E. Carmichael, S.C. Sowders,
