County clerks in Indiana were not required to record births and deaths
until 1882.
Births that took place before October 1, 1907 will only be
recorded in the office of the local health department. Birth records after
that date should also be recorded in the office of the Indiana State
Department of Health Vital Records Department. (A PDF file of the
Application for
Search and Certified Copy of Birth Record can be downloaded if your PC has the Adobe Acrobate Reader
program. Please read the form instructions carefully.) "Heirloom" birth
certificates are also available through the Vital Records Department of
the Indiana State Department of Health.
The birth certificate will
contain the child's name; birthplace, birthdate; sex; name of the
hospital; time of birth; father's name, race, birthplace, age and
occupation; mother's name, race, birthplace, age and occupation; parents'
residence and how long lived there, marital status; number of other living
children, number of deceased children, and any stillbirths.
The Indiana Works Progress Administration indexed the Jackson County birth records for 1882 to 1920 in 1942. See the Jackson County Books, Manuscripts, and Newspapers page for more information on this book and the libraries where it may be found.
You may submit your birth records here for any person that was born in
Jackson county prior to 1921. NO RECORDS ON LIVING PEOPLE WILL BE
POSTED!
