FORMER SHERIFF OF JAY COUNTY DIES
Portland, Sept. 30 –

Samuel H. Barr, 80, lifelong resident of Jay County and former sheriff, died this noon at 11:45 at his home on the Boundary Road, following a two months’ illness. Mr. Barr at one time served as Republican County Chairman and for several years, he was deputy Wayne Township Assessor.

Surviving are the widow; four children, Oral H. Barr of Noble Township, Mrs. Frank Honek of Chicago, Carrie Barr of Richmond and Frank Barr of Portland; two brothers, James Barr of Moline, Ill., and Stephen Barr of Collett; one sister, Mrs. Jane Wood of Pike Township; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Portland, Oct. 1 –
Funeral services for Samuel H. Barr, 80, who died Monday at his home on the Boundary Road, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Baird Chapel, Rev. A. N. Shockney, pastor of the West Walnut Street Church of Christ, assisted by the Masonic Lodge will officiate.

 Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery.
