Karen S Vance

Former Portland resident Karen S Vance of Swiss Village, Berne Indiana passed away Friday, January 4, 2019. Karen S. Vance was born July 7, 1941 in Anderson, Indiana to Darwin H. and Mozelle (Weaver)Woodruff. She graduated from Summitville Indiana High School in 1958 and Ball Memorial School of Nursing Muncie, Indiana in 1962.

She married her husband of 56 years, Bob Vance on November 24, 1962. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Darwin (Woody) Woodruff.

She is survived by husband Bob Vance, son Robert E (Jinnie) Jr. Yorktown and daughters Lori A. (Steve) McIntosh and Lana K. (Melvin) Hilty both of Portland, and Lisa S. (Matt) Rudy of Naples, Florida. Additional survivors include grandsons Mark (Michelle) McIntosh of Berne, Ben (Brittany) Vance, Joe Hilty, Isaac Hilty all of Portland and Jonathan Rudy of Naples, Florida: granddaughters Abbey (Sam) Juday of Yorktown, Elizabeth Rudy of Naples Florida, and Kaitlyn Hilty of Portland; great-grandsons Jace and Dax Vance of Portland and soon to be born Sylyas Juday of Yorktown; great-granddaughters Madalyn and Merritt McIntosh of Berne and Paylin Vance of Portland and Indiana.

Karen worked as an RN at Jay County Hospital, Persimmon Ridge, and Randolph Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was co-owner of Vance Heating and Cooling and Indoor Comfort by Vance.
She was member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Asbury Joy Circle and the Round table Sunday School Class. She served on the board of the Pregnancy Care Center of Jay County.

Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or The Pregnancy Care Center of Jay County.

Bairdfreeman Funeral Home in charge of services. Viewing to be held Friday, January 11, 2019 at the funeral home from 4-8 pm and 1 hour before services at the church. Services are Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 at Asbury United Methodist Church. Burial at Green Park Cemetery.
