Swhier ‘Children’ Get Together at Redkey

Redkey, Ind. – On October 6, the children of George W. and Anna A. Swhier met at the old homestead, three-quarters of a mile East of Redkey, now occupied by Mr. And Mrs. Jesse L. Hoppes.

Mr. And Mrs. Swhier came here from their native state of Virginia in 1873.  They cleared a space in the forest on their eighty-acre farm one and one-half miles West of New Mt. Pleasant in Jay County and built their home.  Here all eight of their children were born.  Fifty-five years ago they moved to the farm now owned by Mr. And Mrs. Hoppes.  Mr. Shwier died in 1925 and Mrs. Swhier in 1933, but all their children are living, ranging in age from 65 to 83.  Their combined ages total 597.

The children are: Mrs. Virginia Harris, of Muncie; Mrs. Henrietta Smith and Mrs. Zoe M. Wyatt, Redkey; Mrs Florence B. Hoppes, Farmland; Mrs. Bessie A. Smith, Lima, OH; Mrs, Jessie E. Boul of Detroit; Mrs. Bernice A. Copenhaven, Montclair, N.J.; and Russell W. Swhier, Brooklyn, Mich.
