Generation No. 1

1. Abel Hutton I (Joseph4, John3, Thomas2, John1) was born Bet. 1758 - 1772 in Louden Co., Va, and died 1820 in Harrison Co., IN. He married Elizabeth.

Notes for Abel Hutton I:

There is a letter written to the court in 1820 by Elizabeth Hutton stating "owing to the delicate state of my health together with other difficulties I have not been able to settle the accounts of the Estate of Able Hutton Deceased" She also asked to be released from the guardianship of her three minor children which means that Absolom apparently was "farmed out" to a relative or friend while growing up.

Elizabeth and Abel died in 1820 which may mean that they died of an epidemic or accident.

Information about the Hutton family and descendants of Abel Hutton was taken from the book, "The Huttons of Southern Indiana 1700-2000" by Edward L. Hutton.

Children of Abel Hutton and Elizabeth are:

2 i. Amasa6 Hutton.

3 ii. Elizabeth Hutton, died 1820.

Cyrus Edward (he was called Eddie) was born June 16, 1869. He was born in Saline County, Blackwater Township, Missouri. Eddie moved to Jackson County, Ohio where he met and married Mary Margaret (Molly) Rowland. Molly’s parents were William and Margrete (Martin) Rowland. Cyrus and Molly had thirteen children. All of the children except the youngest were born in Ohio. They moved back to Indiana about 1911. Cyrus died October 8, 1954. Mary Margaret died July 3, 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They are buried at the Brookside Cemetery. Their son, John Percy Hutton, is my husband, Denny's, father.

116 vi. Cora Hutton, born 1872 in MO.

Notes for Cora Hutton:

Cora was born in 1872. The 1880 Census says she was born in Indiana. I think this is wrong as this census also says that Cyrus was born in Indiana and he was not, he was born in Missouri, so I believe Cora was also born in Missouri.

From Sallie Hutton

Children of Samuel Hutton and Ella Donwoody are:

117 i. Carl8 Hutton, born 1881. He married Marie.

Notes for Carl Hutton:

Carl Born in 1881. Carl married Marie (Unknown) Denny’s mother , Juanita Hutton wrote in her genealogy log: " Carla (daug of Carl) b about 1907. Carla Marie (Hutton) Coleman lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. She has four daughters: 1) Betty Marie Coleman m Walker William McKnight, 2) Armetha m (m 2x) Elliot and Porter, 3) Madonna Jean Manza 4) Agnes (Peggy) Bernice Massingil.

118 ii. Samuel C. Hutton, born October 15, 1885; died Bef. 1910. He married Pearl Ashpaugh April 21, 1906 in Madison Co., IN; born May 02, 1887.

Notes for Samuel C. Hutton:

Samuel C. born in Oct. 15, 1885 and married Pearl Asbaugh/Asbauph on April 21, 1906 in Madison County, Indiana.* They had a female child on January 15, 1907 in Madison County, Indiana. There is a Pearl M. Hutton listed in the 1910 Census in Madison County. She is living in the home of James W. and Maggie A. McConnell as a boarder. There is a Clarence A. Sturdivant, step- son also living there. She is listed as a widow and is a dish washer in the local hotel. She has a daughter Carla age 3 years. (I cannot be sure this is the same Pearl as the one who was married to Samuel C. Jr., but since there is a Clarence A. Sturdivant living with Ella in 1920, Pearl’s mother-in-law, it seems likely).

At this point, I do not have any more children identified as children of Samuel and Ella.

Note: All of this information has been taken from census, relatives’ notes and marriage documents. I have noted by * if there might be a question to the family link. For example, I have Pearl married to Samuel C. yet there is not verification that Samuel C., Jr. is the son of Samuel.)
