DEMAREE CEMETERY-Located in Section 23-4-11  Transcribed by DAR in 1942

Jeptharh Beull,   12 Apr. 1807-21 May 1835
Daniel Demaree, died  24 Mar. 1845 in the 56th year of his age-Erected by his wife Sarah

At one time there were many graves in this Cemetery. Sarah Demaree wife of Daniel is buried in Joyce Cemetery, she died 20 Jan. 1891 age 97 years. Daniel was the son of Samuel & Mary Brewer Cozine Demaree.



LANHAM CEMETERY-Located in Section 23-4-11 on what was the George Demaree farm - Transcribed by DAR 1942

John Lanham  died 6 April 1853 aged 71 yrs. 11 days. He was a native of Maryland and a citizen of Jefferson Co. since 1811

LEWIS CEMETERY-Located in Section 24-4-11.  There is only one stone DAR 1942

A son of Elijah Lewis is buried here. The stone has moved down the hill since it was erected.



LYONS FARM CEMETERY-Located in Section 27-4-11.  DAR 1942

    Over 75 years ago (in 1942) there was a graveyard on the Lyons farm. Nothing remains but a few flield stones. According to C.H. Lyons it was a public burying ground and there were at least 25 graves. His father said their was an old man named  "Straw" buried here.
    At one time the Pleasant Ridge Church was on this land and was just a small log cablin. About 1855 the new church was built near where the present Church now stands.



GALE CEMETERY

This small cemetery is on Highway 54 between Madison & Vevay, near the Switzerland County line, in Section 17, Township 3 North, Range 12 East. There is a total of 8 stones in 2 rows.

2.  Gale, Sarah wife of John E.,  d. 19 Aug. 1855 in her 67th year
3.  Gale, Mary Ellen, dau. of John E. & Sarah,  d. 24 Aug. 1858 in her 29th year.
4.  Gale, Melanchthon, son of AE & Susan G.,  died  8 Jan. 1862 in the service of his country, aged 19 years, 8 days.

2.  Gale, Eliza H., consort of AE,  d. 14 Nov. 1847  aged 27 yrs, 11 months, 17 days
3.  Gale, Marcelie, dau. of JE & Sarah,  21 Aug. 1819-5 May 1839
4.  footstone ENG (possibly that of Eliza H., but if it is, its been moved).



LAWSON CEMETERY-Located in Section 14-4-11 near Manville.  DAR 1942

    On an Indian Mound, at the top of the hill, directly behind the home of the Sheets family who were living there in 1943, are buried William Lawson & his wife Sarah Short Lawson. An iron fence surrounds the graves and a stone was erected there.

William Lawson a native of Scotland, born near Glasgow, 5 May 1785  died 10 Oct. 1873 and buried on this mound at his request.
Several children who were buried in the yard at Lawson's home were later buried on this Indian Mound.



FUGIT CEMETERY

In Section 15-4-11 between 2 bridges at Manville, only one stone is left.  DAR 1942

Missouri Fugit,  dau. FP & MG,  died 1851 aged 10 years.
Emanuel Medagh, Revolutionary Soldier is probably buried here.  Jesse Fugit wo married Leah McKay, dau. of James & Mary Cheek McKay of Shenandoah Valley VA., came to Jefferson Co. in 1813 & settled at Manville.
