Joseph C. Anderson Aug. 1, 1924 -- Sept. 7, 2003 HOLMES BEACH, Fla. -- Former Anderson resident Joseph C. Anderson, 79, Holmes Beach, died Sept. 7, 2003, at Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, Fla. He was a teacher, coach and principal in the Anderson Community Schools system for 36 years, retiring as principal of East Side Middle School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, the Rev. Cleda Anderson; two daughters, Dr. Rebecca Anderson and Laurie Anderson; a son, Dr. Rodney Anderson; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Freda Morrison and Joyce Bookout, both of Anderson. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Longboat Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key, Fla., with the Rev. Kenneth Gill officiating. A local memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 27 at Park Place Church of God, Anderson. Memorial contributions may be made to Anderson University or Longboat Island Chapel. Arrangements are being handled by Griffin-Cline Funeral Home, Holmes Beach Chapel.

MARY HAYES OF ELWOOD,

DIES OF WRECK INJURIES

Elwood, Nov. 23, --- Mrs. Mary C. Hayes, age 75, of 817 North Sixteenth Street, died at Mercy Hospital at 9:30 a. m. today from injuries received in an automobile wreck south
of Elwood Thursday afternoon. The body was removed to the R. L. Jackley funeral home, but funeral arrangements have not been made.Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Abbie Adams of Frankton; Mrs. Blanche Scroggins of Spiceland; and Mrs. Ruth Hartley, of Elwood; a son, Russell, of Frankton,and a sister, Mrs. Maude Eastman, of Frankton; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Hayes was born at Columbus, Dec. 5, 1870, the daughter of Wesley andRebekah Comer, and married Cort Hayes in 1892. Mr. Hayes died a few years ago. Mrs. Hayes was a member of Zion Chapel Church.
The accident in which Mrs. Hayes was injured took place Thursday afternoon when autos driven by Ernest Conklin and George Qverman collided 3 miles south of this city.
Mrs. Hayes was in the Conklin car and when first brought to the hospital was not believed to have been hurt seriously, but X-ray examination showed serious internal injuries.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Arvilla Hayes Adams, 73, of 1420 W. 10th St., have been set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the BakerBrothers Funeral Home. Ministers in charge will be the Rev. Donald Ward of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churchand the Rev. Verdean Owens of the Goodwin Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in the East Maplewood Cemetery.Friends will be received at the Baker Mortuary after 3 p.m. Friday.Mrs. Adams died at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Americana Nursing Home.
