Jan 1 Very blustery day. Snow all day from morning till night. The roads are very muddy. Pork is worth per lb. From 10 to 10 1/2 a pound.
Jan 2 Another very blustery day. Snow most all day. I am at home all day today.
Jan 3 Very bad weather. The roads are all most impassable. More snow today. I have not done much work today.
Jan 4 There is quite a snow on the ground at this time. I am helping Jim and Hugh to butcher hogs. Then I went to town.
Jan 5 I butchered my hogs. I have sold 3 of them at 10 cents pound. I killed six. The roads are very ___.
Jan 6 I took 3 hogs to town to McMillen. They weighed 692 at 10 ½. Amount $12.66. The roads are bad.
Jan 7 Rendering lard. The day is quite cold. Froze very hard last night.
Jan 8 I went to Hardenburgh to get Mike shod. The coldest day this winter.
Jan 9 Very cold day. I am at home.
Jan 10 ____ wood and hauling up wood and corn fodder.
Jan 11 Went to town to sell some wheat. 58 bu at one dollar.
Jan 12 Chopped some wood and hauled it up to burn.
Jan 13 Chopping some trees down on James' for logs.
Jan 14 chopping this forenoon. This afternoon it rained.
Jan 15 Fixing the log sled to haul some logs.
Jan 16 Went up to Mother's. Very hard rain this afternoon. High water.
Jan 17 The creek is the highest it has been for this winter.
Jan 18 Went up to Mother's to finish the sled.
Jan 19 Helping Jim and Hugh to haul hay to Elliott's barn. Hauled 2 loads.
Jan 20 Hauling rails from James' woods. The ground is froze some.
Jan 21 Husking corn by the house. Quite muddy.
Jan 22 Hauling in corn and fodder. The ground is most thawed out.
Jan 23 Rain this morning and cloudy the rest of the day. We are at home.
Jan 24 Rain all day. Most of the water will be high tonight and tomorrow.
Jan 25 Fixing the door on barn and fixing on the fasteners on doors.
Jan 26 Went up to Mother's to get the saw. Frank Mullen helped me some.
Jan 27 Went to town to get some notions.

Jan 30 At home all day. The roads are very muddy.
Jan 31 Snow this forenoon. I am at home tinkering around.
Feb 1 Hauling in some logs to sawmill to make some lumber.
Feb 2 Went to Vernon and left the account of Bailey's.
Feb 3 Chopping firewood. Very pretty day overhead but muddy.
Feb 4 Helping B. B. Sullivan to gather corn. The ground is froze some.
Feb 5 Helping B. B. to gather corn till noon. This afternoon hauling wood.
Feb 6 Went to church over the creek. Very pleasant day.
Feb 7 Hauling hay for Jim & Hugh to the switch. No. of loads, 2.
Feb 8 The same. Hauled two loads from the barn to the switch and 6 from Elliott's.
Feb 9 Helping Jim & Hugh to haul hay to switch. No. of loads 3. No. of bails 12.

Feb 12 Finished the haul of my corn by the house, then hauled one load of rails.

Feb 21 Peter Wolsifer died this morning. I went to the trial at the Four Corners as witness for A. Sullivan.
Feb 22 I went to Pete Wolsifer's burying this forenoon. This afternoon hauling out logs of the woods.
Feb 23 I am hauling some logs to the mill. Hugh is helping.
Feb 24 Went to Leonrie's(?) sale. The ground is froze quite hard this morning.
Feb 25 I hauled in some more logs to mill myself.
Feb 26 I went to town and on my road home, I bought four head of cattle off Hirl(?).
Feb 27 I went up to Mother's to fetch down some cattle that I left there. The cow and calf is up.
Feb 28 Choring around, fixing a shelter for the calves and chopping some wood. Quite cold weather.
Mar 1 Helping to dig a grave for John James. Quite cold.
Mar 2 Went to the funeral of John James' child this forenoon.
Mar 3 Went to the trial of Jud Sullivan at the Four Corners.
Mar 4 Cut some wood and hauled up.
Mar 5 Went to town to get my boot fixed and get the stove boiler.
Mar 6 Went to church, then went to Jud Sullivan's.
Mar 7 Chopping wood to burn up on James'.
Mar 8 Chopping wood on James' land. Some snow on the ground.
Mar 9 Went to Hardenburgh and bought three head of cattle off J. Cammell.
Mar 10 Sawing some rail timber up in James' woods. Spilker is helping.
Mar 11 Went to mill this forenoon and hauled some fodder up and then went to chop.
Mar 12 Finished hauling in the corn fodder, then hauled the rails off of Chase's.
Mar 13 We are at home most of the day. We went over to B. B. Sullivan's.
Mar 14 Chopped wood.
Mar 15 Rain this morning, then at 10 o'clock it snowed fast and is quite cold. Went up to Papa Gannon's.
Mar 16 Chopping wood, very stormy all day. Snowed by spells.
Mar 17 Went to town to old Vernon and N. Vernon.
Mar 18 Chopping wood. Went to the mill with a grist.
Mar 19 Hauling some wood. Very muddy.
Mar 20 We are at home. Jud and Ell Sullivan is here.
Mar 21 Hauling some rails to fence around the woods, pasture and wheat.
Mar 22 Hauling rails and finished. I allow to build fence tomorrow.
Mar 23 Building fence. Will Gannon was married.
Mar 24 Finished building fence this forenoon. This afternoon went to town with corn.
Mar 25 Went to town and took in a load of corn. The price of corn is 75 cents. The roads are dried off some.
Mar 26 I went to Hardenburgh to take back my road book. Rainy day.
Mar 27 At home. Very muddy time.
Mar 28 Choring around. Not doing much.
Mar 29 Hauling logs for B. B. Sullivan. Mike fell down on my leg.
Mar 30 Not doing much. My leg is very sore. Very wet weather and very muddy.

Apr 1 Hauling some wood. Rainy time.

Apr 3 Went to church over the creek. Very nice day.
Apr 4 Sawing logs to haul into the sawmill. Deputy is helping.
Apr 5 Hauling in the logs to the sawmill. Jim is helping.
Apr 6 Hauling some rails and repairing the fence up by Ewing fence . Then hauled some from Canfield's.
Apr 7 Commenced to plow for oats. The ground is pretty wet.
Apr 8 Sowed my oats and clover. Rain tonight.
Apr 9 Sowed some clover on the wheat this morning. Went to Abram Reeve's the first time.
Apr 10 Went up to Mother's and she was not at home. Then went to Father Gannon's.
Apr 11 Went to town with a load of corn. The price of corn is 75 cents. Had nineteen bu.
Apr 12 Planted some potatoes and plowed the garden and hauled some lumber from the mill.
Apr 13 Commenced to build board fence across the fields from the road to the creek.
Apr 14 Went to town with a load of corn. The road is getting pretty good.
Apr 15 Built some more board fence.
Apr 16 Went to town to pay the tax. Rainy day and snow. Snow tonight.
Apr 17 All home today, all day.
Apr 18 Went to Reeves' this, the two time. The morning is quite cool. Finished the board fence.
Apr 19 Weighing out some hay for William Baxter. One ton at ten. Paid $6.00, due me yet $4.00.
Apr 20 Taking out some grubbs, out of the meadow. The ground is very wet.
Apr 21 Taking out some more grubbs and setting out some willows in the bank. Helping B. B. Sullivan roof his smokehouse.
Apr 22 Went to town with a load of corn. 19 bu at .75
Apr 23 Commenced to plow today for corn. The day is very warm.
Apr 24 At home. Alfred Gannon is here.
Apr 25 Plowing for corn out on the corner by the creek.
Apr 26 Plowing till noon on the same. This afternoon I went down on the other field to commence. Anthony Wells(?) was married.
Apr 27 Got my harrow today and harrowed the corner by the creek.
Apr 28 Rain this morning and a part of the forenoon. So I did not plow. I was fixing the fence by the creek.
Apr 29 Plowing today for corn. The ground is in very good order.
Apr 30 Went to help John James to roll logs.
May 1 At home all day. Very nice weather and warm.
May 2 Plowing this forenoon. This afternoon I commenced to lay off for corn by the creek.
May 3 Plowing and planting some. Jake Deputy is plowing.
May 4 Plowing. Very nice weather and warm.
May 5 Plowing for corn.
May 6 Still plowing. The ground is in very nice order.
May 7 Hauled a load of wood this forenoon and then went over and helped Jud Sullivan to role some logs.
May 8 I went to church today. Mother and Jim and Tilda stopped here.
May 9 Finished plowing the sod field by the creek. The weather is quite cool.
May 10 Commenced to harrow on the sod. Very cool.
May 11 Harrowing today again.
May 12 Finished harrowing and Jimmy Young is laying off.

Jul 17 Went up to my mother's awhile. Myself alone.

Oct 1 Went to town at N. Vernon with wheat and some corn.
Oct 2 Went to look for my white steer that has been gone for some time. I found him at N. Vernon and brought him home.
Oct 3 Finished husking corn in the corner of the meadow this forenoon. This afternoon hauling gravel on road.

Oct 5 Hauled gravel on road. Very dry time.
Oct 6 Warmed out hands to work the roads.
