1893 Barker Hall Discontinued, Evening Dispatch, Michigan City, IN 19 August 1893.
It has been definitely decided that the Barker hall school will be discontinued. The decision was only recently arrive at, and is due to the fact that the school can not be made self-sustaining with such a limited field to draw its support from. The institution has been running for quite a few years, and has always maintained an excellent reputation, and many people will regret to learn that it is to be closed. Mr. Heermans has made great efforts to place the institution upon a self-sustaining basis, but has finally concluded that it not be wise to keep open longer. Miss Harriet Miller will conduct a kindergarten school in the building this fall.
