Nace - Rose Nace - 2/16/2001 - News Dispatch - LaPORTE — Rose J. Nace, 80, LaPorte, died at 7:26 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at her home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of LaPorte with the Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Essling Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. She was born March 29, 1920, in Chicago to Michael and Rosa Glatzl Rossner. On Aug. 1, 1936, in Crown Point, Ind., she married LeRoy Nace Sr., who preceded her in death. Mrs. Nace is survived by three daughters, Jeanine Gropp, New Buffalo, Mich., Marceil Hicks and Darlene Nace, both of LaPorte; one son, LeRoy Nace Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mitzi Seminara, Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Mrs. Nace in death were one daughter, Rose Lanier; one son, Jules Nace; and one brother, Carl Rossner. Mrs. Nace was employed as a cook at Galena Elementary School and Hamilton Grove. She had also worked at Easy Heat/Wirecraft. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Navroski, Thomas - Tues. 10 Feb. 1903 Michigan City (IN) Evening Dispatch - - Thomas Navroski died at 8 o'clock Sunday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julia Dobiski, 1120 Elston street, of old age. He was born in Germany September 5, 1827 and settled in Coolspring township several years ago. Several months ago he and his wife moved to this city, and the latter died in January last. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Dobiski and William Navroski of this city and another son in Coolspring township. The funeral was held at 9 o'clock this morning at Otis. RICHARD NAUE  - The LaPorte Daily, April 9, 1924 Richard Naue, one year and ten months of age, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Naue, of 402 H Street, died yesterday afternoon following an illness of one month. The child was born June 1, 1922, and is mourned by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy and Louisa, one brother, Robert Naue, and grandfather, Daniel Hollandsworth. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Paul Eickstaedt, will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and the remains will be taken to Union Mills for interment.

NESBITT, KATE A. (Kittie) – La Porte Daily Argus-Bulletin, 10 March 1905   Miss Kate A. Nesbitt of Rolling Prairie, died yesterday afternoon after an extended illness, death resulting from nervous prostration. Miss Nesbitt was born January 10, 1862, at Rolling Prairie, where she had always made her home. She is survived by her mother, one brother, J. P. Nesbitt, of Colorado, and three sisters, one in California, and Mrs. John A. Noble and Mrs. Stella Austin, of Rolling Prairie. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the family home, Rev. C. B. Black officiating. Austin Cutler is in charge. Burial in Rolling Prairie Cemetery.

NESBITT, MINER –La Porte Argus, 14 August 1884   Miner Nesbitt died at Rolling Prairie, last Tuesday, aged about seventy-four years. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon and he was buried at the station. Burial in Rolling Prairie Cemetery.

NEVA, MARY MRS - Mrs. Mary Neva, wife of Stephen Neva, residing in Coolspring Township, died Tues. a.m. (23 Sept. 1901) She was 28 years old and leaves a husband and 5 children. Funeral Thursday morning from St. Stanislaus Church. Michigan City News, Michigan City, IN, Wed. 25 Sept. 1901, p. 4, c. 6.
Added info: WPA Index date of license - 20 Jan. 1903 recorded in Mar. Bk. O, p. 526. However, the index did not give any date of marriage. It is possible they are among the couples that the priest at St. Stanislaus, Michigan City did not send their marriage in to the county clerk and did not record them in the parish books.

Nevorski, Thomas – Wed. 11, Feb., 1903 Michigan City (IN) News - Thomas Nevorski, who died Sunday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julia Dobeski, 1120 Elston street from old age, had been a resident of Laporte county for about 35 years. Mr. Nevorski resided on a farm near Otis for nearly all this time; only two years ago when his health began to fail did he leave his farm and he and his wife made their home with their children. The deceased was bedfast nearly all the time for the past two years.
  Mr. Nevorski was born in Poland 76 years ago. He leaves three children, viz: William Nevorski of this city, Jacob Nevorski residing in Porter county and Mrs. Julia Dobeski of this city. He is survived by 39 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Nevorski preceded her husband to the grave one month.
  The funeral was held Tuesday a.m., at Otis the funeral party going by carriage to the Otis Catholic church where the services were conducted by rev. Father Raszciewicz. The pallbearers were Barney, John and Albert Nevorski, Frank, Max and Julius Dobeski, grandsons of the deceased.
  Among those who attened the funeral were William Gnibba, August Kachub, George Steamer, William Strepick, Frank Dominski, Frank Ventlint, William Nevorski and Julia Dobiska of his city, Thomas Davaraski of Laporte, Celia Davaraski of South Bend and many other friends and relatives of the deceased. Nevortski, Agnes - Wed. 14 Jan 1903 Michigan City (IN) News - Agnes Nevortski, aged 93 years, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dobeski, Saturday noon, was buried at Otis this forenoon, the remains, accompanied by relatives, being taken down on the Monon train. Deceased leaves a husband and three adult children to mourn her death. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted by Father Raszkiewicz. Newman, Charles    - LaPorte Daily Argus -- 9 March 1931 Charles August Newman, age 68, died Saturday noon at his home two miles south of Hanna. Death followed a short illness of pneumonia. Mr. Newman was born in Babbia, Pomeranian province, Germany, on Jan. 2, 1863, coming to the United States in November, 1885, and making his home new Bass Lake, Ind. He was unitied in marriage to Mrs. Matilda Hunt in 1895 and moved to Hanna township, where he resided the remainder of his life. He was the oldest of a family of eight children. Surviving are the widow; three children, Otto J. Newman of Stillwell, Mrs. Minnie Bluhm of LaPorte and Marie, at home; three stepchildren, Mrs. Emma Robertson of LaPorte, Mrs. Lydia Sommers of Union Mills and Charles Hunt of Hanna; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Otto Newman of Wenatchee, Wash., Fred Newman of Argo, Ill., William Newman of Know and Robert Newman of Michigan City, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Fabian of Michigan City. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Hanna Lutheran church, the Rev. G. Bloedel of Hamlet officiating. Donna Nichols - LaPORTE — Donna J. Nichols, 73, LaPorte, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at her home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Lark Carlson Brown officiating. Burial will be in Door Village Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. She was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Valparaiso, Ind., to Edgar and Thelma Ludington Gustafson. On Nov. 2, 1946, in Murfreesboro, Ky., she married Carl Adrian Nichols, who survives. Survivors also include one daughter, Susan Larson, LaPorte; two granddaughters, Staci Reuer and Lori Foglesong, both of LaPorte; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Clifford, Valparaiso, and Pat Reis, Chesterton; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Mrs. Nichols in death was one sister, Evelyn Rewersma. Mrs. Nichols was the owner of Door Village Ceramics for 20 years. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

NICHOLS, HARVEY - La Porte Herald Argus, Monday, 24 Dec 1951 - Harvey Nichols, 87, of Route 3, died at 1:55 Saturday afternoon at the Holy Family hospital following an illness of two weeks He was born at North Manchester, Ind., Feb. 5, 1864, the son of Leonard and Mary Nichols. He came here 45 years ago from North Manchester. Mr. Nichols was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Arbie Deardorff and Mrs. Verna Holman, both of La Porte; Mrs. W. F. Gruhn, Chicago; Mrs. Bertha Brinker, Marion, Ind.; four sons, Carl of Rolling Prairie; Garl and Willard of La Porte; Glenn of Springfield, Ore.; 34 grandchildren, eight grandchildren; one brother, Charles, North Manchester, Ind. Friends may call tonight at the Haverstock chapel and tomorrow morning the body will be taken to the Bender funeral home, North Manchester, for services. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery at North Manchester.

NOBLE, FRANK STANHOPE – La Porte Argus, 13 August 1885   Frank Stanhope Noble, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Wm M. Noble, died very suddenly yesterday forenoon about eleven o’clock, of spinal meningitis. The little fellow was in apparent good health, and the evening before was playing out of doors until his bed time, but was taken sick during the night. Dr. Fahnestock was called, but the attack was so severe that no help could be given him. He was a bright child and the pride and joy of his parents. He was four years, eight months, and three days old. The funeral will take place from the house at three o’clock this afternoon, and the burial will be at Rolling Prairie.

NOBLE, MRS. SUSAN F., - Michigan City News 5 June 1901 - Mrs. Susan F. Noble, widow of John B. Noble died Tuesday morning at her home in Rolling Prairie at the age of 80 years. She had been a resident of the county since 1847. She leaves three sons, who are Houston Noble of this city, John A. Noble of Rolling Prairie and William N. Noble of Laporte.    GRADE CROSSING CLAIMS COUPLE
   One of the saddest accidents that has happened in LaPorte county in years was the one Saturday afternoon, Oct 30, by which was snuffed out the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel K. Northam, well known and highly respected residents of Scipio township. While returning home from their son’s residence, where they had attended a dinner party, they were struck by a passenger train on the Grand Trunk railway and were almost instantly killed.
  The accident was witnessed by Miss Anna Brown of Union Mills, a passenger on the train, who happened to be looking out of the window, and a man in a nearby field, besides the members of the engine crew. These were all summoned by Coroner Osborn, in order that their depositions might be taken. One of the things which Mr. Osborn has investigated fully is the point whether the engineer whistled and rang his bell before coming to the grade crossing.
  Mr. and Mrs. Northam spent the afternoon at the home of their son, Asa Northam, and his family in Washington township. They left their son’s home some time after 4 o’clock, and as it was an hour after the time for passenger train, no. 9, to pass the crossing, one mile west of Kingsbury, which they had to cross, they had no fear of any trains. It so happened, however, that No. 9, a west bound accommodation, was about an hour late and so the phaeton in which the couple were riding was on the track when the engine struck the crossing. The crossing is a bad one and people crossing are compelled to exercise much care. Both Mr. and Mrs. Northam were hard of hearing and it is presumed that they had not the slightest intimation of the coming of the train. The top of the vehicle was up and the side curtains were on and so they probably never knew what struck them. The engine threw the rig high in the air and when the occupants struck the ground Mrs. Northam suffered a fractured skull and a broken arm, while Mr. Northam’s neck was broken. Mrs. Northam died instantly, while Mr. Northam breathed a few minutes before expiring. The train was stopped and the bodies taken care of. The horse was injured and was shot by the conductor. The vehicle was completely demolished.
  Mr. Northam would have been 80 years old had he lived until next January while Mrs. Northam celebrated her 82nd birthday anniversary recently. Both were people who held the highest esteem of those who knew them. Mr. Northam’s brother, Job Northam, died several years ago, while a sister the late Mrs. (Judge) Osborn, died many years ago. The deceased are survived by three sons, Asa M., Martin K., and Frank R. Northam, and one daughter Mrs. Olive Pollard, besides nieces and nephews and grandchildren. The funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church at Union Mills, Rev. E. S. Smith officiating. The burial took place at Union Mills cemetery.
   Biographical material from another obituary. Again - no source. Daniel Ken Northam was born at Williamstown, Mass, Jan 3, 1830. Lavina Parsons Northam was born in Richmond, Ind., August 27, 1827. Both came to the county in early childhood and were known as early settlers. They were married on Feb 25, 1858, at the home of the late Judge A. L. Osborn, LaPorte county. Mr. Northam was the son of Asa Northam. He was a brother of J. H.. Northam who died recently at Wilmette IL. Mrs.. Northam was a niece of the late I. N. Rambo of Noble township and a sister of Dr. Marie Parks Furlong of Warsaw, Ind., who was the first woman graduated into the medical profession in the state of Indiana.

Novroski, Mrs. Agnes - Mon. 12 Jan. 1903 Michigan City (IN) Evening Dispatch - Agnes Novroski, wife of Thomas Novroski, died at 2"30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julia Dobeski, 1120 Elston street, of dropsy.
  Mrs. Novroski was ninety-four years old. She was born in Poland, and came to this city thirty years ago. She is survived by her husband and three children, the latter of whom are William and Jacob Novroski and Mrs. Julia Dobeski, besides thirty-nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
  The funeral was held at 10 o'clock this morning from the Catholic church at Otis, the family having once resided at Otis. The remains were taken down this morning by way of the Monon. The funeral party was composed of thirty-five relatives and friends of the deceased.
