John Enos Zeigler II [Ziegler, Zigler] was born in Philadelphia on 11 Jun 1816, the son of John Enos Zeigler (1782 - ?) & Anna Lamb (1785 – *1865). He married Caroline Smith, the daughter of Daniel Smith (1791 – 1865) & his 2nd wife Mary <Stogdon ?> (Williams) Zeigler (c.1801 – c. 1824) on 13 Mar 1839 at Sansom St. Baptist Church; Philadelphia, PA. John was a painter, grocer, collector and custom house officer in Philadelphia.

John moved to Noble Twp., La Porte Co,. Union Mills, IN in 1858, with his wife, his mother Anna (Lamb) Zeigler and 4 children: Mary Stogdon (1839 – *1905), Emma (1842 – *1913); Anna (1844 – *1899): John E, III (1847 – *1929) and Susan (1849 – *1849). Mary married Barclay Underwood (1816 – *1872) on 25 Mar 1862 at her home in Noble Twp. and later married Levi Tryon Logan (1838 – *1914) on 20 Mar 1874, La Porte Co. Emma married Jacob Henry Locke (1835 – ?) on 14 Jan 1861, La Porte Co. Anna married Daniel Jackson Linard (1837 – *1913) on 26 Mar 1862 at her home in Noble Twp. John III married Adelia J. Zinn (1845 – *1920) on 5 May 1870, La Porte Co.

William Frederickson [Frederickson] (1805 – *1876) married the sister of John E. Zeigler II, Patience Zeigler (1812 – *1895) in Philadelphia on 3 Aug 1834. William was a tobacconist and a carman before moving to La Porte Co., IN on 15 Jun 1852 - following his brother, Henry C. Frederickson (c. 1800 – *1847) who appears in the 1840 La Porte Co. Census. Their mother Christiana Catharine Frederickson (c. 1778 – c. 1865) speculated in La Porte County land (obtaining 840 acres from the Bureau of Land Management in the mid 1830s) , but apparently did not leave Philadelphia.

On 9 Nov 1859 John Zeigler II bought lot #5 Sec. 21, Twp. 35N (Noble Twp.) for $2,200. The 1860 Census shows William Fredricson [sic] and his family living in the same household with the Zeiglers. John and William were farmers. The farm house (at 9908 South, 300 West near Union Mills) was later purchased by John Lloyd (1799 – *1892), and in 1999, when owned by Cyrus Lloyd (1916 – *2001) and his wife Catherine, was recognized as a historic Indiana landmark.

John Zeigler's first wife, Caroline (Smith) Zeigler, died in La Porte Co. on June 1, 1860 about a year after they arrived in La Porte Co. However no tombstone has been found or a grave next to her husband in Union Mills Cemetery. John returned to Philadelphia and married Susannah Jones (1817 – 1901) on 17 Dec 1861 at the Fourth Baptist Church. A studio address on a tintype of Barclay Underwood, John's neighbor, suggests he accompanied John to Philadelphia for the wedding. Barclay would marry John's daughter, Mary Stogdon Zeigler, and Anna Zeigler would marry Daniel Linard three months later in a double wedding at the Zeigler/Frederickson home. John & Susannah lived in Noble Twp. near Union Mills for 38 years. John died in Philadelphia while visiting his brother-in-law, Edward Jones (1820 – 1900), and he was buried next to his daughter Emma Lock and grand-daughter Susan Wakeman (1872 – *1939) in Union Mills Cemetery.

When her husband died, Susannah moved back to Philadelphia. She died on 27 Nov 1901 and is buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
