Generation No. 1

1. Nicholas1 Closser1,2,3,4 was born 1751 in Germany, and died 1835 in Union Co., Indiana. He married (1) Mary Hafer. She was born 1760 in Harper's Ferry, Virginia, and died 1829 in Union Co., Indiana. He married (2) Rebecca Smith.

Notes for Nicholas Closser:

Nicholas may have been married twice, I have several records indicating marriages, one with Mary Hafer being first and one with Rebecca Smith being first. Looking at the birth dates of the wives and children, I would guess that Rebecca was 2nd and Mary was 1st.

At the age of two years, he, with his parents, emigrated to America, where they arrived previous to the Revolution, and settled in Virginia, within four miles of Harper's Ferry. While Washington's army was encamped at the Ferry, Mr. Closser fed them until his crop of 700 acres of corn was consumed, and did not receive any compensation from the Government. Although an alien, his sympathies were with the patriots, and he rejoiced at the final triumph of their arms.

In 1802 he moved to Washington Co., Pennsylvania; thence in 1814, to Butler Co., Ohio, and in 1830 to Wayne Co., Indiana, where he resided about 12 years.

Mr. Closser was small in stature, but of great mental and physical vigor, even to his latest day. He met a sudden death in 1835 or 1836. While riding out with his wife his horse took fright and ran away. He was thrown off and killed at the age of 84.

The 20th Century History of La Porte Co. indicates that the Closser family came from Washington Co. PA about 1815 to Warren Co., OH then to Butler Co OH in 1814 and Wayne Co, IN in 1830. Name was originally Glosser but changed to Closser by the American branch of the family. He was small in stature, but of great mental and physical vigor, even to his last day. He met a sudden death in 1835 or '36. While riding out with his wife his horse took fright and ran away. He was thrown out and killed at the age of 84.

CHAPTER 3

FIRST GENERATION: Closser, Glosser, Glohser, Closur, Kleisor, Clothier Families. Nicholas 1.

As in most of our ancestors' names, the name of Closser was spelled many different ways, and it is believed to be of German origin.1 The first Closser in America that I have been able to document is Nicholas CLOSSER. According to Ethel HEIMLICK who wrote "Stammbaum der Familie Heimlick", Nicholas name was spelled Glosser when they first arrived in America, but by the time his name is found in Pennsylvania and Ohio land records, it is spelled Closser.

Nicholas was born after 1742, but before 1750 in Germany, and at the age of two, immigrated with his parents to America. The family first settled in Virginia, about four miles from Harper's Ferry and one descendant believes that the family came from Hillesheim, Germany.

There was a Jacob GLOHSER, Jacob CLAUSER and Henry CLAUSER landing 29 September 1750 aboard the ship "Osgood" from Rotterdam. I have not been able to prove any connection between Nicholas and the three above named individuals.

The Closser family arrived prior to the Revolution and while Washington's army was encamped at the ferry, Nicholas fed them until his crop of 700 acres of corn was consumed; and it was stated that he did not receive any compensation from the government. Although an alien, his sympathies were with the patriots, and he rejoiced when they won.3 According to genealogist, L. POMPRELL, this may be incorrect folklore, as he is of the opinion, that Washington's army was never in that location.

He married Mary HAFER, but there is no information on the date or place of marriage, but based upon the birth of their first child, they would have been married prior to 1780. The oldest children were born in or near Sperryville, Rappahannock County, Virginia. Approximately 1800, the family moved to Washington County, Pa and in the "History of Washington Co. PA", several grandchildren were born in Amwell Township on the old Closser farm which was situated on the Branch of Ten Mile Creek. Ten Mile Creek empties into Monongahela River at Millsboro and the north fork of the creek rises in Morris Township and provides water for the Townships of East and West Bethlehem, Amwell and Morris. After 1814, Nicholas moved his family to Butler County, Ohio and after 1830, he moved on to Wayne County, Indiana, where he died. He is listed in the 1830 Census of Ohio, Milford Township, Butler County,

Nicholas' name appears in several deed books of Washington County, Pa. and Butler County, Ohio.

On 31 March 1802, there is a deed between John RYAN and his wife Catherine to Nicholas CLOSSER of Amwell, Morris Township, Washington County, Pa., a parcel of land on Two Mile Creek containing 156 acres and ninety perches of land. The selling price was $702.15.

On 10 April 1805, also in Washington Co. PA, there is a deed from Daniel MC FARLAND and wife to Nicholas CLOSSER of one hundred acres with an allowance of six percent, sale price $180.00.

On 31 December 1813, Nicholas and his wife sold to Jacob ANDERSON a tract containing fifty-two acres for $156.93, and the last entry in Washington County, Nicholas sold to Eli DICKINSON sixty eight acres on Ten Mile Creek on 13 October 1814 for $600.00.

On 6 May 1820, Nicholas CLOSSER and Mary, his wife, sold to Samuel YOUNG the east one-half of the northwest quarter of Section 15, Town 5 Range 2 East. The price was nine hundred and sixty dollars. The deed was signed by Nicholas CLOSSER and Mary (x) CLOSSER his wife. Witnesses were Matthew RICHARDSON and Sarah CRUMB. This deed took place in Butler Co. OH.

On 10 March 1827, Nicholas CLOSSER and Mary, his wife, sold to David SHAFFER, part of the West one-half of the SW quarter Section 15, Town 5, Range 2 East 10 acres for the sum of One hundred twenty dollars. It was signed by Nicholas and his wife. Witnesses were Matthew RICHARDSON and Marie RICHARDSON.

On 4 November 1829, John MORRIS sold to Nicholas, both of Butler County, Ohio, part of the SW section 22, town 5, range 2, east 50 acres for the sum of Four hundred and fifty dollars. Deed was signed by John MORRIS and Nancy MORRIS and witnessed by A.F.DARR and Stephen KENDALL.

On 28 January 1831, Enoch MORRIS sold to Edward OGLE, land in the SW quarter section 22, town 5, range 2 east, "being the remainder of the said quarter section and deeded to Elijah EAST and Nicholas CLOSSER in tracts of 50 acres each." Signed by Enoch MORRIS and Ann MORRIS. Witnesses were A. F. DARR, Richard SCOTT, and William LIPPENCOTT.

On 28 December 1831, Nicholas CLOSSER sold to Mahlon MORRIS part of the SW quarter, Section 22, town 5, range 2 east, 50 acres for the sum of Five hundred dollars. It was signed by Nicholas CLOSSER and Rebecca (x) CLOSSER. Witnesses were A.F. DARR and Charlotte EARHEART.

On 8 July 1829, Nicholas CLOSSER sold to Joseph AUGSPERGER the West one-half of the NW quarter of section 15, town 5, range 2 East for the sum of Nine hundred and sixty dollars. Deed was signed by Nicholas and witnessed by Elliott DAVIS and Samuel DAVIS, Jr.

After the death of Mary (placed somewhere between 1829-1831), Nicholas married the widow SMITH. There was a deed signed by Nicholas and Rebecca CLOSSER, so I believe that to be her first name. She may have predeceased Nicholas, as she was not named in his will; however, according to a biographical sketch on the Closser family, it stated "…that Nicholas was small in stature, but of great mental and physical vigor. He met a sudden death in 1835-6 while riding out with his wife, his horse took fright and ran away. He was thrown out and killed at the age of 84". It is possible that he married for a third time, or perhaps his will was made before his marriage to the widow SMITH.

Nicholas and Mary had a total of seventeen children and in the seventeen there were four sets of twins.

Nicholas's Will and comments, left intact as the original. (From Jackie Bullock)

After the death of his first wife Mary (placed between 1827 and 1831), Nicholas married the Widow SMITH. She apparently predeceased Nicholas as she was not named in his will. Nicholas died in Wayne County, Indiana in 1835-6, and his will was probated in Butler County, Ohio in March 1837.1 It reads as follows:

In the name of god Amen. I Nicholas Clossor of the county of Butler and state of Ohio being in good health of body and of sound mind and memory thanks be to god for the same and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs whilst I have strength and capacity so to do: do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revolking and making all former wills by me made and previously I commit my soul into the hands of my creator who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently interred: and as to such worldly estate where with it hath pleased god to entrust me with dispose of the same as the money that is owing to me can or will be collected it shall be put out to interest for the use and benefit of son Charles Clossor. Remain so for his use until his death also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catherine Thompson five dollars also I give and bequest unto the heirs of my son John Clossor five dollars and it is my will that after the death of my son Charles Clossor all my estate that shall then remain shall be divided equally between Elizabeth Horn, Daniel Clossor, Nicholas Clossor, nancy Moris late Nancy Clossor, Mary Horn, Jacob Clossor and Abraham Clossor also it is my will that Samuel Young shall be guardian for my son Charles Clossor. Also it is my will that Daniel Clossor shall be my executor to this my will and lastly I declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty eight day July in year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine.

Nicholas Clossor

Signed and sealed in presence of

Caleb L. Smith and Samuel

Notes for Mary Hafer:

I have at least two birth years for her, 1760, and 1785. The 1785 date appears to be wrong, unless it was a second marriage, since several children were born prior to her birth.

Biographical sketch provided by Jackie Bullock (06/05/2001)******************

John was born 2 January 1784 in the vicinity of Sperryville, Rappahannock County, Virginia. John's birth is recorded in a family bible printed in 1815. The bible belonged to his son Daniel and Daniel had inscribed the records of his family and siblings. In his will, a bible was left to his wife and I assume passed on down to Daniel. It is now in my possession. With his parents and siblings he moved to Amwell Township, Washington County, Pa. He had a farm of 200 acres in said county, located on the branch of Ten Mile Creek. John and his family were of the Quaker faith and they remained in Washington County, PA after his father moved on to Butler County, OH. John died circa 1827 in Lone Pine, Amwell Township, Washington County, Pa. He married Rebecca PECK daughter of Jacob Friedrich and Anna PECK of Amwell Township. Rebecca was born 18 May 1790 and died 6 October 1838 in Amwell. John's will was dated 15 September 1827 and his wife and brother-in-law John HORN were executors. He died 18 September 1827, three days after his will was written. His wife and children were named in the will. They had five children:

He was born August 12, 1789 in Pennsylvania, and died August 16, 1850 in Bath, Franklin Co., Indiana. She married (2) Robert White August 23, 1855 in Union Co, Indiana.

Notes for Nancy Closser:

Death place also reported in Bath, Franklin county, Indiana (Leigh Morris File)

Nancy joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church just across the county line into Franklin Co, Indiana In May of 1877 after the death of her second husband, she visited her children in Madison Co.

In June she came down with Typhoid and died at the home of her son, Andrew J. 22 years to the day after she married Robert. She was brought back to Union Co by son Mahlon and her children accompanied. Funeral by Rev. Martindale at her son's At death she had 62 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

In the 1860 census with her second husband, two of her sons by Morris and a Mary Morris, age 16, is living with her new family. Unsure who this Mary is. There was no Mary recorded as being her daughter that fits this age. Mary could be a new child.

Other children in the census are children with the White name and the Morris Children mentioned above.

Notes for Enoch Morris:

He was a private in the War of 1812 under Capt Zachariah DeWitt from Sep. 1814 to Nov. 1814.

Thanks to Jackie Bullock for the following.****

Enoch was a traveling shoemaker. It was the custom in the early days, on the periodical visit of the shoemaker, to have shoes made or repaired for the entire family. One bill dated 15 September 1819 in an estate matter, stated the following: "…make one pair of shoes $2.00…" one dated 25 October 1820 "…make one pair of 'course shoes' $.50 …" and the last bill dated 1 March 1821 "…one pair of uppers $.50…"1

Enoch is listed in the 1807 Census of Butler County, Ohio and the early records reflect Enoch and his family resided Milford Township and later in College Corner, Ohio, which is on the Ohio-Indiana border. This could account for some of his children being born in Ohio and some in Indiana.

Land records show that on 8 November 1817, Enoch sold to Archibald MORRIS, 50 acres in the northwest corner of the southeast quarter of Section 22, township 5, range 2 east for five hundred dollars. On 30 January 1822, Enoch sold to John MORRIS, part of the southwest quarter of Section 22, township 5, range 2 east 50 acres for the sum of five hundred and fifty dollars. On that deed, it was signed by Enoch MORRIS and Ann MORRIS. Nancy is a nickname sometimes used for Ann.

On 28 January 1831, Enoch sold to Edward OGLE, land in the southwest quarter section 22, township 5, range 2 east, "being the remainder of the said quarter section" deeded to Elijah EAST and Nicholas CLOSSER in tracts of 50 acres each. Again, the deed was signed by Enoch MORRIS and Ann MORRIS.

In the "History of Butler County", published 1882, page 566, Milford Township, it states the following: "…Darrtown in the spring of 1806, the first school was made up in this part of the township…it was a log building with a large fireplace in one end, logs cut out for windows, roof covered with clapboards, which were held down by weight poles. The house was used for 25 years and among the teachers were Enoch MORRIS…"

Enoch is shown in the 1830 Census in Milford Township, Butler County, Ohio. There was one male under five years old, 2 over five but not yet 10 and one male between 30 and 40. There was one female between the ages of 30 and 40 and one child under five.

Enoch and Nancy had seventeen children:

Notes for Nicholas W. Closser:

**********History of La Porte, Indiana, 1880 ******Pg 637-638*************

Nicholas W. Closser was born January 12. 18l2, in Washington county, Pa. His first recollection is of moving to Warren county, Ohio, when he was about three years of age. He subsequently moved with his parents to Butler county, where he lived until he was 11 years of age, and thence to Indianapolis, Ind.. where they arrived January 8, 1823, and engaged in farming. During his minority he aided his father in clearing four large farms. He was a pupil in the first Sabbath school organized in Marion county, and has ever since identified himself with the Sabbath school interest. In 1828 he was converted and united with the M. E. Church, near Indianapolis. Subsequently, upon a more careful examination of the Scriptures, he became dissatisfied with his Church relationship, and in 1840 he united with the Baptist Church at Door Village, in which he still retains his membership. he was elected Deacon in 1842. On March 14, 1833, he was married to Miss Rebecca Parker, daughter of William Parker, a millwright and formerly of Pennsylvania. Her father died in Illinois. They have 6 children: Daniel P., Elizabeth H., Jerome B., Sylvanus M., Joseph A., and Emily R. April 13, 1834, he came to this county, and July following he left Indianapolis with his family, moving with ox teams, and he was 21 days in making the journey to Door Village. Here he engaged in farming and in the lumber business, having erected two sawmills, one powered by water and the other by steam. He made the first table and bedstead in the township. He also engaged extensively in the purchase of real estate, but has now retired from farming, and resides in the city of La Porte. There were but few neighbors here when Mr. Closser came to La Porte, and they were scattered all over the county. He and his brother were the first teachers of music in this part of the country. He was the second Constable in the county, before Porter and Lake counties were set off; was elected Trustee of Scipio tp., and served four years; has been Superintendent of schools, and was out in the Black Hawk war in 1832.

Mr. Closser has always taken an active part in public affairs, and has been identified with the Whig and Republican parties.

1850 census

Daniel is 36

Mary Ann is 33.

There are two possible places of his death. One in La Porte the other in Butler Co. The concensus is it was in La Porte, since he was living there.

Children of Daniel Closser and Mary Osborn are:

111 i. James McFarland4 Closser, born Abt. 1836.

+ 112 ii. Emily (Emma) Jane Closser, born July 10, 1838 in La Porte, Indiana; died July 05, 1925 in Lake City, Colorado.

He married (2) Bridget Forrester October 10, 1842 in La Porte, Indiana.

Notes for Bridget Forrester:

I have also seen her last name spelled Forster.

Children of John Closser and Bridget Forrester are:

115 i. James M.4 Closser, born Aft. 1842.

116 ii. Floyd Closser.

117 iii. Mary 'JC' Closser, born Aft. 1842.

118 iv. Harriet Closser.

119 v. Esther Closser.

34. Sarah Ann3 Closser (Daniel McFarland2, Nicholas1) was born December 26, 1817 in Butler Co., Ohio, and died May 05, 1903 in La Porte Co., Indiana. She married William D. Parker16,17 June 12, 1834 in Marion Co., Indiana18,19, son of William Parker and Elizabeth Davis. He was born 1811 in Highland Co., Ohio, and died Bet. 1860 - 1880 in La Porte County, Indiana?.

Notes for Sarah Ann Closser:

The 1850 census (taken 9/9/1850) enumerated the following: William D. , 39, Sarah Ann, 33; Charlotte A., 14; Sophia. 12; Christiana, 4; William S., 1.

This 1850 census, taken in Scipio Township also listed the families of Daniel McFarland Closser and Nicholas W. Closser, Sarah's brothers.

The 1860 census (taken 7/15/1860) listed; W. D. , 48, Sarah A, 44; Charlotte A., 22; Christiana, 13; William S., 11. Sophia is not listed. Charlotte was listed as a Milliner in this census.

In a 1880 census, a Sarah, 61, is living with her son, M. R. The ages and birthplaces of all involved match what I know about Sarah Closser and Milton, her son.

Hi everybody,

I checked the MC Library obituary index and there are three listings for

Sarah Parker;

1, May 6, 1903, p. 5, c. 4, MICHIGAN CITY NEWS

2. May 7, 1903, p. 5, c. 7, MICHIGAN CITY DISPATCH

3. June 10, 1903, p. 4, c. 5 MICHIGAN CITY NEWS (this ones is listed as

Sarah Closser Parker.

Notes for William D. Parker:

The La Porte school records for 1846 showed: Sophronia, 10; Samuel. M, 12; Sharlotte, 13. (0048). These records contradict the 1850 census. This Samuel must be the son of Joshua Davis Parker.

The 1850 census (taken 9/9/1850) enumerated the following: William D. , 39, Sarah Ann, 33; Charlotte A., 14; Sophia. 12; Christiana, 4; William S., 1. Also listed in the same household was two laborers and a John W, Darling age 9 born in Illinois.

This 1850 census, taken in Scipio Township also listed the families of Daniel McFarland Closser and Nicholas W. Closser who married Rebecca Parker (William's older sister).

The 1860 census (taken 7/15/1860) listed, house=1409, family 1379, page 500

W. D., 48, Lumber dealer, 300, Ohio

Sarah A., 44, Ohio

Charlott A., 22, Milliner, Ind

Christiana, 13, Indiana

William S., 11, Indiana.

Milton C., 4, Indiana

Sophia is not listed.

Using the 1850 and 1860 census, William may have been born between the dates of July 15 and September 9, 1811, including these dates.

Everything I find indicates that William and Sarah did not have sons of Samuel and Lewis. I strongly suspect that when these two are listed in the household, they are Joshua Davis Parker's sons. For that reason, I am removing them from William.

I found a 1880 census for who I think is William's wife, Sarah, who is living with her Son, M. R. Parker in Union, La Porte, Indiana. The age and birthplaces for her and her parents matches what I know today about them. The ages of her son and birthplaces also match what I know about him.

This is partial list of registered voters in Hendricks County (Center

and Washington Townships only), as printed in the Hendricks County Union,

issues of August 8, 1867, and August 15, 1867:

Children of Sarah Closser and William Parker are:

Notes for Charlotte A. Parker:

The La Porte school records for 1846 showed: Sophronia, 10; Samuel. M, 12; Sharlotte, 13. (PGD0048).

The 1860 census, William D. for household

Charlott A., 22, Milliner, Indiana

Notes for William Lace:

Came from Ancestry.com world tree

The William J. Lace found in the 1860 census, page 469/43 at Fair Play, Greene Co., Indiana is 36 years old, married to Catherine, 29, and have two daughters age 5 and 2. This doesn't match this William.

The William Lace in 1880 Denton, Texas census doesn't appear to be this one.

I search again for this marriage and try to get more dates. I couldn't find any evidence anywhere that this marriage ever occurred.

121 ii. Sophronia Parker22, born 1838 in Indiana23; died in Westville, Indiana. She married L. C. Humbert; born WFT Est. 1838.

Notes for Sophronia Parker:

The La Porte school records for 1846 showed: Sophronia, 10; Samuel. M, 12; Sharlotte, 13. (PGD0048). These records contradict the 1850 census

Several places her name was spelled as Sophronia.

The 1850 census (taken 9/9/1850) enumerated the following: William D. , 39, Sarah Ann, 33; Charlotte A., 14; Sophia. 12; Christiana, 4; William S., 1.

Sophia is not listed in the 1860 census (taken 7/15/1860) which enumerated; W. D. , 48, Sarah A, 44; Charlotte A., 22; Christiana, 13; William S., 11.

+ 122 iii. Christiana Parker, born Bet. 1846 - 1848 in Indiana.

123 iv. William S. Parker, born 1849 in Indiana23.

Notes for William S. Parker:

The 1860 census in Indiana shows his middle initial to be an S. not D. as I had originally thought it was. 5/5/02.

The 1850 census (taken 9/9/1850) for his father enumerated other members of the member and William S., 1.

The 1860 census, see William D. for household

William S., 11, Indiana.

124 v. Milton C. Parker, born Abt. 1856 in La Porte Co., Indiana. He married Hatella Pattee October 17, 1878 in La Porte Co., Indiana24; born Abt. 1856 in Indiana.

Notes for Milton C. Parker:

The 1860 census, see William D. for household

Milton C., 4, Indiana

Notes for Daniel Parker Closser:

*************Pictorial and Biographical Records Of La Porte, etal, Indiana************************

Daniel P. Closser, son of the above (Nicholas W.) , was brought to LaPorte County when about two months old and fortunately received a good education in the public schools and in Franklin College. Having been brought up to the occupation of farming, he returned to that occupation after finishing his education and remained with and assisted his father until he attained his majority. He then determined to "try his wings," went to Des Moines, Iowa, and opened a general mercantile store in the vicinity of that city, for an uncle, which he conducted for one year. He then returned to LaPorte County, Indiana, and united his fortunes with those of Miss Margaret A. McCormick, a daughter of Thomas and Theodocia McCormick, early settlers of that section. To Mr. and Mrs. Closser the following children have been given: Sarah P., wife of Ed. Michael, of LaPorte; Clarence Edwin, who is in the drug business. and is married to Alice, daughter of Dr. W. W. Wilcox; Charles Lincoln, who is a farmer of LaPorte County and is married to Susan Ladd; Hattie D.; Clara Belle, who died in infancy; William H., a member of the firm of Closser Bros.; Rose Abbie, married Fred N. Schultz, of Elkhart, Indiana; Louis F., married Lura D., daughter of William A. Banks, and Maggie M., who resides in LaPorte with her sister, Sarah. After his marriage Daniel P. Closser purchased a steam sawmill, but at the age of twenty-four found himself in debt $2,400, and in 1860 he disposed of his mill and purchased a farm of his uncle, Branson Parker, amounting to eighty acres. This farm he cleared and in connection with this work operated a sawmill belonging to William Maderas, his work being done entirely at night throughout one winter. In 1867 he disposed of his farm at $40 per acre, after which he became traveling salesman for the M. & J. Rumely Company for several years. He purchased the farm in 1867, upon which he resided until 1885, which is a well-improved place and is conducted in an intelligent and successful manner In 1885 he moved to Kingsbury and engaged in dealing in grain and livestock. On May 2, 1886, God suddenly called to her reward his beloved companion, Margaret A. In the full vigor of womanhood she was stricken down with apoplexy, and in two hours was at rest. This loss proved the most severe stroke of his life, as their marriage had been a very happy one. On October 25, 1888. he was joined in marriage to Susan Adell, daughter of Major Atkin, of Crown Point, and now resides in Kingsbury, close to his farms and surrounded by all his children but the one daughter, who lives at Elkhart. He has made a success of every enterprise to which he has given his attention, and as a traveling salesman was particularly successful. He is a Republican in politics and has served in the capacity of Township Constable and Trustee. He is a member of the Baptist Church and is Superintendent of the Cemetery Association and has twice been President of the Pioneer Association. He assisted in laying the corner stone of the new Courthouse and has been active in all the affairs of the county, and at this writing is improving and building two houses in Kingsbury, and clearing land on one of his farms. He is firm in the belief of Solomon who says, "I once was young and now I am old, and I never have seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread."

Attended Franklin College. After finishing his education, he worked with his father on the family farm near Door Prairie. Then he went to Des Moines and opened a general store which he ran for two years, returning then to La Porte. Notes for Christiana Parker:

The 1850 census (taken 9/9/1850) enumerated the following: William D. , 39, Sarah Ann, 33; Charlotte A., 14; Sophia. 12; Christiana, 4; William S., 1.

The 1860 census, William D for household

Christiana, 13, Indiana

In the 1880 census, her name is listed as Christie, she is 32 years old, this with the other data on 1850 and 1860 gives her birth year between 1846 and 1848. The 1880 census indicates her oldest two children were born in Illinois, while the youngest ones were born in Missouri and Pennsylvania. She must have moved after marriage to Illinois from Indiana, to Missouri then to PA after 1879 and prior to 1880 census.

Notes for Samuel S. Taylor:

The Hassand Family Tree indicates his name is Samuel.

The S. S. Taylor I have listed could be Samuel Seldon or Seldon Samuel.

I have searched extensively the 1870 census in Indiana, Illinois and Missouri plus any state that might have the family. I have not foound where they were in 1870.

In the 1880 census, the name listed is Seldon S. In this census,

Seldon S., 40, PA, Butcher, PA, OH (1840)

Christie, 32, IN, IN, OH (1848)

Hattie, 13, IL, PA, IN (1867)

Annie, 11, IL, PA, IN (1869)

Jessie, 2, MO, PA, IN (1878)

Georgie, 1, PA, PA, IN (1879)

Mary Morrescy, a servant, age 16, born in PA, parents born IRE, IRE.

It is interesting who is not in the census, that is the other children listed.

Per the 1880 census, they were married prior to 1870, Christie in her parents home in 1860. After marriage they either moved to Illinois where their first two children were born, then at some point after that, moved to Missouri for the last two children's birth. They apparently then moved to Penn.

Children of Christiana Parker and Samuel Taylor are:

243 i. Hattie5 Taylor, born Abt. 1867 in Illinois.

1013 South Lindsey Ave, 21, 22, page 098B,

Spencer, 51, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio, Motorman, Street Car.

Annie, 48, Pennsylvania, Penn, Penn

Seldon, 17, Ohio, Machinist, Steel shop

Evelyn, 12, Ohio

There is some conflict in all the census for Annie. If there are all the same person and there is reason to believe that is so, the 1920 census for birthplaces of her and her parents are wrong. Even in 1910, her birthpalce in Illinois which matches earlier places, differs to the 1920. I think some census error was made in 1920.

Notes for Spencer Thomas Hazen:

In the 1910 census: ED=0206

Spencer T. 43, Ohio

Annie, 40, Illinois

Dorothy, 11, Ohio

Seldon, 8, Ohio

Evelyn, 3, Ohio
