Generation #1

Samuel Griffin was born 1788 in Connecticut and died October 11, 1871 in LaPorte County, Indiana. Mr. Griffin is buried in Miller Griffin Cemetery, Kankakee Township. He married Philatheah Leaming December 25, 1810 in Gilboa, Schoharie County, New York, daughter of Judah Leaming and Thankful Tuttle. She was born April 20, 1789 in Connecticut, and died March 17, 1870 in LaPorte County, Indiana. Philatheah is also buried in Miller Griffin Cemetery.

Children of Samual Griffin and Philatheah Leaming were:

1. Edwin Griffin born 1812. Edwin appears in the 1850 LaPorte County federal census in Kankakee Township along with his wife Lucy and his younger brother James.

2. Amanda Griffin, born 1816 in New York, died Oct 31, 1865 in LaPorte County, IN.

3. Thankful Orpha Griffin, born 1818 in New York. She married James N. McElrath on March 26, 1839 in LaPorte, IN. *1850 and following census shows them in Marshall Co., Indiana, where they would reside and raise their children. See Marshall Co., IN web site. This appears to be the area they would raise their children and live and die in.

4. Adeline Griffin, born July 1823 in LaPorte co., IN she married Derreck Brinkerhoff on November 3, 1840 in LaPorte Co., IN. She died 21 Aug 1914 in Ottawa, Kansas.

5. Franklin Griffin born Between 1823 and 1825 in New York. He died some time after 1881 in Christian County, MO.

6. James Griffin born November 26, 1825 in Ostego Co., New York and died July 10, 1897 in LaPorte Co., IN.
    James married Mary Ann Weston on October 1850 in Buchanan County, Michigan.

7. Lucy Ann Griffin, born August 29, 1828 in New York and died November 6, 1908 in LaPorte County, IN.
    She married Hiram H. Andrews on March 30, 1850 in Buchanan, Michigan. Hiram was born on
    September 28, 1828 in Pennsylvania and died June 2, 1909 in LaPorte County, IN.

Amanda Griffin was born in 1816 in New York and married Jesse Blake on October 13, 1841 in LaPorte County, IN.
Jesse and Amanda had the following children. 1850 Census shows the following children

*IN 1860 Laporte County Census, page 268 shows Jesse Blake with a different spouse, Delia C, Age 43 and two more children in addition to those listed above.

Franklin Griffin married Rebecca Andrus daughter of Hiram Andrus and Jennett Haskell . Rebecca was born between 1833 and 1835 in Pennsylvania and died 1868 in Christian County, Missouri. Children by Franklin and Rebecca were:

1. Rosanna Griffin born August 21 1852 in Indiana and died August 1, 1937 in Greene County, Missouris.
    She married Theodore Shelton on Decmber 21, 1870 in Christian County, Missouri.
    Rosanna is buried in Delaware Cemetery, Christian Couny, Missouri.

2. Rosetta Griffin was born September 1854 in Indiana and died 1904 in Christian County, Missouri.
    She married 1st to Francis A. McCroskey on February 13, 1872 in Christian County, Missouri. he was born
    November 18, 1950 and died February 27, 1872. She married 2nd to Alexander Thompson on January 20, 1873
    in Christian County, Missouri.

3. Alice Griffin born 1857 in Indiana and married Thomas H. Carr on July 22, 1879 in Christian County, MO.

4. Samuel Griffin born 1859 in Missouri and died November 5, 1936 in Stockton, CA. Samuel would die in a
    State Hospital in Stockton, CA and his body was cremated there.

5. Jennette Griffin, b. 1862 in Osage Co, MO and died April 23, 1933 in Greene County, MO. She married Pleasant
    Young on Nov. 25, 1878 in Stone Co., MO. She died in County Alms House, Greene Co., MO and buried in
    cemetery there.

6. Lucy A. Griffin born Feb 12, 1864 in Osage Co., MO and died Oct 20, 1904 in Christian Co., MO.

7. Leona Mae (Lona) Griffin born August 20, 1868 in Christian Co., MO and died Dec 10, 1910 in Christian Co., MO.
    She married John W. Short on January 12, 1888 in Christian Co., MO she is buried in Frazier Cemetery, Christian Co
    Missouri.
