Long Residents of this city.

Late Mr. Young Came here quarter of Century ago to build Congregation Church - Well known Contractor

Death last night removed one of the city's oldest and most highly respected citizens in the person of the venerable R. G. Young. He had been ailing for the last month, although he had been confined to his bed but four days. His death occurred at the home of his son Grant R. Young, 124 West Warren Street and was due to old age, general debility and heart trouble.

The deceased was a native of Michigan and was born at Owosso 81 years ago, he having celebrated his 81st birthday anniversary on November 7, last. In his early day he was a carpenter by trade and followed that line of employment during all his life. He was prominent among the contractors of southern Michigan and this city and more than a quarter of a century ago he secured a contract to build the First Congregational church in this city. He moved his family here from Bangor, Mich., at that time and since made his home here. The Congregational church, destroyed by fire and now rebuilt, was the First Congregational church in this city. Among other large contracts held by him here were those for the building of the Episcopal church, the Zion Lutheran church and the German Methodist Church structures, all of which were built under his personal supervision.

He was an industrious worker and his contracts were always carefully and well executed. He followed the contracting business until four or five years ago when he retired and since devoted his time to the performance of small odd jobs about the city.

The deceased is survived by five children, one brother and one sister., Mrs. Young having passed away in this city three years ago. The children are F.M. Young of Lincoln, Neb.; E.E. Young, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; G. R. and J.N. Young and Mrs. Ross Nolan of this city. The brother and sister resided in Owosso, Michigan.
