story PIKE CEMETERY -1848
Located on land which Moses H. Pike obtained by land grant
1848-50. On 12 June 1858 Pike sold the land to
Amos Clark, who deeded back to Pike "a piece of land lying
about center of W 1/2 of SW 1/4 S36, T35N, R3W
two rods and so laid off to enclose the graves" of Pike's wife Lydia,
daughters Mary and Elizabeth, sons Greenlee and John, all died 1848-50.
The cause of death may have been spotted fever (typhus) and/or Pike's
reputed experimentation with medicine. Their epitaph reads:
"Dead souls sleep in the grave, until Resurrection comes.
Then Life immortal they shall have, when risen from the Tomb."

Marriage record: Pike, Moses H & Ruth Barney married Oct 16, 1848

There is a story that Moses Pike was experimenting with medicine and the results of his tests are buried in this cemetery.

A Ruth Pike, born July 10, 1801 , died August 23, 1891 is buried at Salem Chapel Cemetery.
Sounds like it could be Moses' second wife. Moses is said to have gone out west.
