Please note samples of marriages below. The early marriage license only contained the Groom and Bride's names, date they were married and the official that married them or approved the marriage license. (see samples below)
Then beginning in 1882, the counties were required to send marriage information on to the state for statistical purposes. You can only obtain copies of marriage record information from the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the county where the license was issued. Types of records the court may have included: licenses (issued before the marriage took place, in the county where the bride lived); ministers' returns (made by the minister who performed the marriage and then, usually but not always, returned by the minister to the clerk of the court); and affidavits of consent (needed when either the bride or groom was under legal age).

| Amos Dunking is actually Amos Duncan, he was a my 3 great
grandfather. Amos Duncan was married first to Cynthia Wooten( my 3 great
grandmother) in August 14, 1845 in Lagrange Co, Indiana. Cynthia died in 1853.
Amos and Cynthia Duncan had 2 children, Sophia Duncan and Francis Marion
Duncan. Amos Duncan's sister, Elizabeth Duncan who married Jacob Replogle took
care of Sophia Duncan until @ 1860. In 1863, Sophia married Nathan L. Hill in

| Ernest Leaming & Miss Mata L. Starr - wedding announcement.
Contributed by: Sue Brown Saturday, May 6, 1893 WILL BE MARRIED MONDAY Ernest C. Leaming, Formerly of this City Will Wed Miss Mata L. Starr, Late of Cleveland, Ohio The many friends of Ernest C. Leaming, for many years a resident of this city, will read with interest and pleasure the announcement of his approaching marriage, which will take place at the Grand hotel, Cincinnati, at high noon, Monday May 8th. The bride-elect is Miss Mata Lynes Starr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alden Starr, late of Cleveland, Ohio. The ceremony will be performed by Rev. Robt. A. Gibson, rector of Christ's Episcopal church, Cincinnati, in the presence of only a few intimate friends and a number of immediate relatives of the contracting parties. Following the wedding a wedding breakfast will be served to be followed by a short reception after which the bride and groom will depart for a short wedding tour. Of the bride-to-be, but little is known among Ernest's acquaintances here as he met the lady of his choices at Laporte, where she has visited with friends, and at her home in Cleveland. Her father Mr. Alden Starr, is an old resident of Cleveland where the bride was reared to womanhood. he was recognized as on the the solid real estate business men of that city, and only recently closed out his real estate business there to locate elsewhere, probably in Michigan, after spending a few months traveling. The bride is an accomplished young lady, practical and womanly and of excellent judgment which she has fully demonstrated in her choice of a husband. The groom is a young man well known in Michigan City and Laporte county. He is a son of the late Charles Leaming, of Laporte, one of the early settlers of the county and was raised in this county. For twelve years past and until the last two years he was a resident of Michigan City, identified with the lumber interest in the city, in which business he held positions as traveling salesman for several years. His last engagement here was with the Michigan City Sash and Door company, which position he resigned nearly two years ago to accept a similar position with the Morgan Sash and Door company, of Chicago, for which firm he is still traveling, with Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan as his territory. He is a young man of excellent character and good business qualifications; of genial disposition and can well be recommended to any young lady as a model husband. His many friends at his old home will join The News in heartily wishing himself and bride much happiness and a long journey through life together. Mr. and Mrs. Leaming will be at home after June 1st, at 205 College avenue, Indianapolis. |

Beginning in 1882, the counties were required to send marriage information on to the state for statistical purposes. For marriages before 1882, county marriage records in Indiana may not include much information other than the bride's and the groom's names, the date of the marriage return, the officiating minister, and if the bride or groom was under legal age, the name of a parent or guardian. Beginning in 1882, the bride and groom also had to supply their age, birthplace, birth date, race, the names of their parents, and information about any previous marriages of either person.
