I am writing about Veterans buried Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana, web site. I want to give you a correction and additional information on my Great-Grandfather, Ephriam Wellwood. He was born in Raleigh, Kent Co., Ontario,Canada. He mustered into Army Co F - 25th as a Private in the Michigan Infantry on 06-22-1862. He mustered out 07-08-1865.By that time he was with Company K - 25th Michigan V.R.C.

A few notes of interest, his wife, Lucinda's P Starr's father, Thomas Starr, was in the same unit in the Civil War, Company F - 25th Michigan Infantry.

Ephriam was 'invaliding' and in the hospital in Washington, D.C. at the time of Abraham Lincoln's death (verified in his veteran's records). He always told my Dad and my Uncle (both still living) that he was in Abe Lincoln's Honor Guard at Abe's funeral. Apparently, the official Honor Guard was another unit from Michigan and they rounded up all the Michigan boys that were well enough in Washington to be in the Honor Guard as well. Unfortunately, the only proof of this is Great-Grandpa's word as that fact wouldn't be mentioned in his official paperwork.
Ephriam made application again for invalid pay 29 Mar 1888.

Ephriam's wife, Lucinda P. (Starr) Wellwood b. 1847 preceded her husband in death. Her obituary appears in the Michigan City Evening News on Jun 20, 1922 page 5 column 2.

Ephriam & Lucinda had eight children 5 of which survived to adulthood. Below are some of the children, but not necessarily the 5 that survived into adulthood, with the exception of Emma, Sylvia and Royal. (See info on Royal below).
1. Emma E. Wellwood b. Michigan abt 1869 d. Illinois 29 Sep 1944. Chicago, Cook Co., IL. she m. William J. Goeckel 29 Jun 1898

3. Clarence Wellwood about 1877
4. Henry Wellwood b. 1880

My Grandfather, Royal Wellwood, is buried next to his parents, Ephriam and Lucinda Wellwood. Note: Royal married Frances E. Dysard on 26 nov 1913. He died in the Spanish Influenza Epidemic. His obituary appears in the Michigan City News on Mar 26, 1919 page 8 column 5.
