JOHN HENDERSON and his pension application

The text noted below was abstracted from digitized documents available at www.fold3.com.

John Henderson, age 69 and a resident of Lawrence County, Indiana, applied for a pension on September 13, 1832. At that time he noted that he was born in Louisa County, Virginia, on July 20, 1763, and was raised in Goochland County, Virginia. In 1779, he was called into service in the militia under the command of Capt. Thomas Hatcher and David Rutherford and served three months before he was discharged. He subsequently served another three months.

On March 13, 1845, Robert Frost, age 25, testified before the Lawrence County, Indiana, probate judge that he had known John Henderson, deceased, and his wife, Jemima, all of his life. John was reportedly a Revolutionary War pensioner who resided in Lawrence County. John reportedly died on January 11, 1844, and Robert noted that he was a witness to the death and funeral service.

In 1845, when Jemima was 85 years old and a resident of Lawrence County, Indiana, she applied for her late husband's pension. She noted that she had lived in Lawrence County for 32 years and lived previously in Kentucky.
