SEVERE CRITICISM OF JAILS

The bad condition of several of the jails and county institutions of the state, to which Secretary Butler of the Board of State Charities has often referred, were made the subject of a lengthy report to the board at its recent meeting. The lack of provisions for separating the sexes is one of the evils of jails in several counties, and this is severely condemned. The jails that are most harshly criticized are those in Lawrence, Clinton, Floyd and Delaware counties. The jails in Henry, Jefferson, Wabash and Kosciusko counties are also criticized as is the Sullivan County poor asylum...
