The text noted below was abstracted from digitized documents available at www.fold3.com.

On October 8, 1857, Mary Lemon, a resident of Lawrence County, Indiana, and a widow of the late Mathias Lemon, declared that her husband was a colonel in command of the New York militia in the War of 1812. Mary said that she was married to Mathias in Lawrence County on December 14, 1820, by Nathaniel Jenkins. Her maiden name was Humiel [difficult to read]. Mathias reportedly died in Greene County, Indiana, on December 15, 1841.

Mary's declaration was made for the purpose of obtaining bounty land to which she believed she was entitled under an act passed September 28, 1850.
