A three months old son of John N. Pierce of near Springville, died Wednesday forenoon and was buried at Pierce graveyard.

Leroy Pierce, aged about 65, who lives near Fayetteville, was stricken with paralysis Monday and is not expected to live. He had started to walk from his house to his son's, about half a mile away, and was stricken on the way. He had lain on the ground where he fell for two or three hours before he was found. He was then unable to speak and has ever since been unconscious. His physician has no hope that he will recover.

L. J. Pierce was born in Iredell county, North Carolina, June 11, 1830, and moved with his parents to this county in 1831, and has ever since been a citizen of Lawrence county. He was married to Sarah Cobb in 1852. To their union was born six children ? four boys and two girls. He was married to Jane F. Douglass in 1868, his first wife being dead. To their union was born nine children ? six boys and three girls ? twelve of his children surviving him. He had a stroke of paralysis on December 12 and died three days later. He united with the Baptist church at Pleasant Ridge in January 1878, after which he was a faithful member. He was 68 years, six months and four days old at his death. He leaves a wife, two brothers and one sister and thirty-three grandchildren. His funeral was preached by Rev. Thomas M. Craig, after which his body was laid to rest in the Pierce cemetery, there to wait till the trumpet of the Lord. A FRIEND.
