John Trisler

John Trisler is believed to be the son of Peter Trisler, Jr. and Rosina (or Rosana) Bruner and known to be the grandson of Dr. Peter and Elizabeth Trisler.

John and his first wife, Sarah Waggaman, moved from Jessamine County, Kentucky, to Monroe County, Indiana in the 1830s. They were the parents of seven children:

Sarah Waggaman Trisler died 1 September 1853; John married the widow Emiline Ensey on 4 Jul 1854 in Monroe County, Indiana. John and Emiline had one daughter, Emeline Mary.

After second wife Emiline's death about 1859 or 1860, John married a third time to Jane Luellen Thornburg on 10 May 1861 in Lawrence County, Indiana. John and Jane didn't have any children but John raised her four children from her previous marriage along with his own. Jane Luellen Thornburg Trisler died 14 January 1880 and is buried at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford, Lawrence County, Indiana.

John married for the fourth and last time on 27 May 1880 in Lawrence County, Indiana to Rebecca Gray Pruitt. John Trisler died on 26 January 1882 in Lawrence County, Indiana.

It is not known where he is buried, but perhaps Green Hill Cemetery near his third wife, Jane.

From Bedford (Lawrence County, Indiana) Star, October 30, 1875, page 3:

John B. Trisler and family have moved back to town again.

From New Albany (Floyd County) Ledger, January 27, 1882, page 1, column 2:

John Trisler, an old citizen of Bedford, dropped dead from his chair yesterday just after eating his dinner, from heart disease.

John Trisler's death was reported in similar news items in the January 28, 1882, Marion (OH) Star, and the February 16, 1882, Rochester (IN) Republican.

One note of interest is that James Franklin Thornburg, Jane's son, lived for many years in Bedford under the name Bud Trisler, and operated a meat market and a dray business. I have not been able to puzzle out yet the Thornburg family, but James' use of the Trisler surname has made it more interesting! Following is his obituary from the Bedford (Lawrence County, Indiana) Daily Mail, August 11, 1921, page 1:

DEATH
of Bud Trisler Occurred Last Night at Oddfellows Home.
BURIAL THERE FRIDAY.

James F. Thornburg, better known in this city as Bud Trisler, died last night at the I. O. O. F. Home at Greensburg where he and his wife were sent last April by the I. O. O. F. lodge.

Mr. Trissler [sic] will be remembered in this city as having been in the meatmarket [sic] business for many years later running a dray business. He was geneal [sic] and accommodating and was well liked by all who knew him.

Last January he was stricken with paralysis from which time he gradually failed. While caring for him his aged wife fell and fractured her hip and she was taken to the Dunn Memorial Hospital. While visiting her at the hospital Mr. Trissler suffered a second attack and was kept at the hospital by the I. O. O. F. lodge for a month at which time entrance to the I. O. O. F. home for the aged couple was gained by the local order and they were taken there. He was married to Miss Sarah Rollins and while no children came to bless their union they raised as their own the daughter of the deceased's sister, who is now Mrs. Joe Huff of this city.

Surviving are the aged widow, who is confined to her room by complications arising from her fractured hip; and two sisters, Mrs. George P. Smith, of Jeffersonville, and Mrs. Amanda Huff, of this city.

The funeral services will be held at the I. O. O. C. Home in Greensburg Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial will be made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery at that place.
