J. A. Underwood's tin shop and Job Clark's hat shop on the north side of the square were destroyed by fire on Saturday morning. Also a vacant, 2-story building owned by Julius Sues and the restaurant he owned next door as well as a shoe shop owned by Oliver McLahlan.

Catherine Leach died January 14, 1854, from a complication of scarlet and lung or winter fever, infant daughter of M. W. and Caroline Leach.

John Henson, Sr., died last Friday, age about 60 [difficult to read], of winter fever. He was an eccentric character.
