Bedford Democrat: "Capt. J. W. Voris, who has been in poor health for several years and during the past two or three weeks has been confined to his home, was stricken with paralysis about four o'clock Friday afternoon, his entire right side being paralyzed. Capt. Voris was sitting up in a chair reading a letter from his daughter who lives in Bloomington when he was stricken. Mrs. Voris was in an adjoining room at the time but came in as he fell over by the side of the bed. Dr. Heckman was hastily summoned but could do little for Capt. Voris whose condition is very critical, although Dr. Heckman thinks he may live a week, perhaps longer. Capt. Voris Thursday received a letter telling him of the critical condition of his son who had undergone a surgical operation in Iowa. It is thought the excitement caused by this news may have been in some measure responsible for the stroke of paralysis."
