MEETS SISTER THOUGHT DEAD

FAMILY SCATTERED UPON DEATH OF PARENTS AND SISTERS LOST EACH OTHER

To have the pleasure of seeing and talking with a sister whom she thought probably dead and not seen since a girl of eight years the experience that just recently befell Mrs. William Emery living at 507 John Street, this city.
Mrs. Emery is one of a family of eleven children. She was born on a farm about ten miles south of Shoals in Martin County. When she was four years of age her mother passed away and the year following her father died. The family scattered in the course of time six of the children died.
Mrs. Emery kept track of the children with the exception of one sister, of whom she was never able to obtain any trace. The last time she saw her sister being only eight years of age. Mrs. Emery was justly astonished upon receiving a letter last Thursday from Mrs. Mary Devine of Vincennes, stating that her sister now a widow of about seventy two years, whom she had not seen for forty years was a guest in her home. Mrs. Devine is a niece of the two women and Mrs. Emery lost no time in hastening to Vincennes to greet her sister, whose name is now Polly Jones and who is a resident of Moline, Ill.
A brother of Mrs. Devine ran across Mrs. Jones and suggested that she visit at the Devine home. She complied and upon her arrival was informed of the fact that her sister lived in this city.
After finishing her visit at Vincennes, Mrs. Jones will go to Loogootee for a short stay with her relatives and she plans to stop off here for a visit with Mrs. Emery before returning to Moline. Mrs.  returned from Vincennes Monday.
Through talking with the older sister Mrs.  Emery was enabled to learn much of the history of her family that she had never had an opportunity to learn because of the death of her parents while she was still young.

File note: Rebecca and Polly are my great aunts. Their parents are Thomas Tillery and Lucinda Hendrixson Tredway. The family is well documented, but I was unable to find a record of Polly (Mary)....anywhere. It has since been shown to me that census data and other supporting records suggest she is Mary Hawkins, the daughter of Lucinda Hendrixson, 2nd wife of Thomas Tillery Tredway.  Charlie.
