Kelsey -- Jeremy

Source: Zach, Karen Bazzani.  Montgomery Medicine Men ... Crawfordsville: MCHS, 2002.

Found in the 1850 census, living with his father, Jeremy Kelsey was listed as a medical student.  It is not known if he finished medical training or what practicing doctor was a mentor.  Jeremy would have been born about 1825 in Ohio, but came to Indiana at an early age with his parents and their large family.  He was the son of Edward and Eliza Kelsey.  It is thought he was buried with his parents in Finley Chapel Cemetery dying June 3, 1864 at age 39 years 10 months and 29 days; howev,er this may be a brother with the same initials, J.S.  There is a J.S. Kelsey, Dr., and farmer in the 1874 People's Guide, Montgomery County, listed as having been born in 1822 in Ohio, settling in Montgomery County about 1825; a Democrat and Universalist.  Also in 1870, there is a Jeremy age 40 as a farmer with wife, Cinderella and children: Ida; Eva; Eliza and Mary.  Since his mother, Eliza lives with the family, he may have decided there was more money and lses time in farming.
