Kesserling - John

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Nov 4, 1914

Rumor had John S. Kesselring, Waveland restaurant keeper in more trouble Thursday evening but investigation today established the fact that the latest report here of John's escapades was not based on facts. The divorce case of Kesselring against his first wife, Carrie Belle Kesselring, was set for trial in circuit court here Thursday but was postponed because of the absence of witnesses. During the afternoon a report reached this city that Kesselring had been approached by a man at Waveland who had mentioned the divorce case, causing an argument to ensure which resulted in the restaurant keeper, striking the fellow a blow that left him unconscious during the night. The rumor stated that Kesserling then hastily boarded a train and left Waveland. That credence was placed in the report here is shown by the fact that Crawfordsville police were searching for Kesselring Thursday night and was awaiting his appearance here, the rumor indicating that he had started north on a Vandalia train. A telephone investigation at Waveland today failed to find any substantiation of the reported fight of Thursday and Waveland persons said no such trouble had occurred. -- kbz
